James Franco and Seth Rogen Recreate Kanye West Video

James Franco and Seth Rogen just won the Internet. The comedians have created a shot-for-shot remake of the Kanye West video 'Bound 2' which features Kim Kardashian. Watch both and compare. What makes this even funnier is that we know Kanye doesn't have a sense of humor. I can only imagine what kind of a fit he threw when he saw it.

BOOM! Studios Announces New Imprint BOOM! BOX, An Experimental Line of Titles Created Just ‘For the Love of it’

BOOM! Box Teaser Image

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is excited to announce BOOM! Box, a new imprint that aims to push the envelope with experimental content from some of the brightest, forward-thinking creators in comics today. The new line of titles kicks off in December with the debut of THE MIDAS FLESH, a new, original series from the creative team behind the KaBOOM! line of ADVENTURE TIME comics, writer Ryan North and artists Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb. BOOM! Box joins the publisher’s other imprints, which include KaBOOM!, BOOM! Town, and Archaia.

“This imprint is about new ideas and unique ways of doing things,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Shannon Watters, our mastermind editor behind ADVENTURE TIME, REGULAR SHOW, and BRAVEST WARRIORS, has brought some amazing talent into BOOM! over the last couple years. These are creators that have inspired us; they have an undeniably energizing spirit to what they do, and all have their own stories to tell. That jump-started the idea to give them—and other great creators we’ve come to know who aren’t involved in KaBOOM!—the opportunity to go wild and come up with their most outrageous ideas—and for us to say, ‘Yes, we will publish that.’ It’s about experimenting, having fun, and embracing the limitless form of comics.”

BOOM! Box titles will vary in genre, tone, format, and creative vision, but will share a gleeful energy focused on creating comics purely “for the love of it.” The imprint will also focus on introducing successful creators from outside the direct comic market into the traditional print comic market, including web cartoonists, illustrators, and fine artists.
“BOOM! Box is meant to be a gleeful space for creators to explore projects that are exciting or challenging for them, as well as giving them the means to do so,” said Editor Shannon Watters. “We’re interested in publishing comics under this imprint that are a ball to read...no murderbots or male protagonists with a tortured past, perhaps, but dinosaur planets and adventuring best pals and plenty of graphic storytelling made with love.”

BOOM! Box will launch in December with the release of THE MIDAS FLESH #1, a sci-fi adventure taking inspiration from the mythological man who could turn everything he touched into gold. Inspired by a strip from Ryan North’s immensely popular webcomic, Dinosaur Comics, THE MIDAS FLESH follows a space crew as they return to Earth—a planet that has been completely sectioned off, abandoned, and transformed into gold—in the hopes of finding something to help fight a merciless Federation from further expanding its wrath across the universe.

Future series and projects from BOOM! Box will be announced in coming months as the imprint is carefully curated and expanded organically.

McFarlane Toys Reveals Highly Limited Edition Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Edward Kenway Statue

Only 1,000 Statues Produced Worldwide:
Available on12/13 at McFarlane Toys Online Store

From one of the most anticipated video games of the year, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, McFarlane Toys  is bringing to life the charismatic yet brutal pirate captain, Edward Kenway, as an exclusive limited-edition resin statue. McFarlane Toys'™ highly detailed, hand-painted, cold-cast resin statue depicts the main character of the video game franchise-- the brash, rebel pirate captain Edward Kenway. His skill with a sword and disdain for authority earn him the respect of pirate legends, like Blackbeard, but thrust him into an ancient conflict that threatens to destroy everything the pirates have built.
The meticulously sculpted and hand-painted statue captures Edward Kenway as he appears in key game art.  The in-game accurate statue features Edward striding confidently ashore, with sword and pistol in hand, waves lapping at his boots, and a dead rival pirate at his feet. McFarlane’s Edward Kenway statue perfectly captures the mix of sea and land, of pirate and Assassin, in the authentic detail that defines Assassin's Creed IV.

With acute attention to detail, this statue was designed by Todd McFarlane and his award-winning McFarlane Toys Design Group, in conjunction with the Assassin's Creed® franchise video game creators at Ubisoft.
The Edward Kenway statue stands approximately 14-inches tall on its base, spans more than 14-inches from the tip of his coat tail to the end of his weapon and stands on an 11.5 inch wide circular base.  The statue depicts Edward in his pirate Assassin outfit, complete with long jacket, hood, hidden blade gauntlet, skull-shaped buckle, sword and dual pistols. The limited-edition statue features an exceptionally detailed base that replicates the appearance of the seawater that rotates 360-degrees. Additionally, the base features a custom plaque that is individually and sequentially numbered and embossed with the official Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag logo.  The statue is highly limited to ONLY 1,000 total pieces worldwide. As an added bonus, each statue includes a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by the internationally acclaimed artist and McFarlane Toys creator Todd McFarlane.

McFarlane Toys will also offer 50 of the 1,000 statues in the extremely-limited "Unpainted Artist Proof" variant--primed in flat grey and ready for customization or to be displayed as is by collectors in its rawest form.  Each statue will be feature a custom plaque that is individually and sequentially to reflect the limited production run of 50.

The limited edition Edward Kenway Statue and "Unpainted Artist Proof" collectible statues will retail for $295 each  (free shipping and handling; only available  in the U.S. and Canada) and will be available to purchase on the McFarlane Toys online store (http://www.McfarlaneToysStore.com) Friday, December 13, 2013.  A limited quantity of Edward Kenway statues will be available through Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc.

Breaking Bad Alternate Ending Surfaces on YouTube

An alternate ending to the series finale of Breaking Bad has been posted on YouTube under the account of Michael Davies (apparently, the Talking Bad producer). The video is most likely to pop up as a DVD/Blu-ray extra on the upcoming release. Whether or not it does end up on disc, this the ending that Malcolm in the Middle fans have been waiting for. It's amazing how Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek slip back into their Malcolm characters after so many years.

BBC Debuts New Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Minisode 'The Night of The Doctor'

The BBC debuted a new minisode today with a HUGE surprise. Watch it here via Youtube:

In an interview about "The Night of The Doctor" over on the official Doctor Who website, showrunner Steven Moffat said, "The completist in me… the ‘box set man’ in me wants every box ticked and I wanted every regeneration scene!" The fanboy in me wants to believe that Christopher Eccleston will make an appearance in "The Day of The Doctor." McGann publicly denied involvement in the official anniversary celebration and we know that Eccleston and Moffat met about the possibility of returning to the role. At this years San Diego Comic Con Moffat was quoted as saying, "I have lied my arse off for months. You know nothing so don't make presumptions." With the surprise we got today, could we get a Hurt/Eccleston regeneration?

BOOM! STUDIOS CONFIRMS 'DAY MEN' #2 BOOM! STUDIOS CONFIRMS 'DAY MEN' #2 ADDITIONAL PROMOTION

On December 11th, BOOM! Studios will release the second issue of DAY MEN, the original series created and co-written by Matt Gagnon (FREELANCERS), co-written by Michael Alan Nelson (PROTOCOL: ORPHANS, Supergirl) and illustrated by luminary artist Brian Stelfreeze (Wednesday Comics).
The first issue met with critical and commercial success, garnering numerous positive reviews along with an almost immediate sellout of the first printing. Additionally, Universal Pictures optioned the rights to produce a DAY MEN feature film within a month of the debut of the series. Issue #2 was originally solicited through June Previews for August 2013 release. Due to the extended delay, BOOM! Studios is pleased to share plans for additional promotion and rewards for retailers and fans continuing to support this unique original series. Creator and BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon shares the details in a special letter below:

Dear Retailers and Readers,
Please fasten your seat belts and prepare for landing. We're approaching our final destination.
To put it another way, DAY MEN #2 will be in stores December 11th! You can insert your "It's a Christmas miracle!" jokes here. So...when DAY MEN launched, it quickly amassed a wellspring of critical and commercial success. And for that, we need to thank all of our readers and the retail community for embracing the series. It's a unique book to produce, and one that sort of runs contrary to the monthly publishing schedule. So my feeling is this: if this series is going to be a little different, then it's only fair that we, as the publisher, be different in how we're approaching our support of retailers and readers. It's a two-way street. As you read on you'll see some of the incentives that we're offering for our awesome retail partners and readers.
It's funny, as Editor-in-Chief of BOOM! Studios for going on four years, and another two before that as Managing Editor, I've implemented an era of discipline and reliability for our shipping schedule. It's one of the hallmarks of our company—something I personally take very seriously—and one of the accomplishments I'm most proud of. Ask anyone at BOOM! and they'll tell you I'm borderline rigid about executing our production schedule flawlessly. To boil down my philosophy of publishing comics to its simplest components, it's about "great comics, on time." I believe in delivering the highest-quality stories and doing it on a schedule that fulfills on our solicitation promises to retailers. Look no further than POLARITY, SUICIDE RISK, SIX-GUN GORILLA, HIT, IMAGINE AGENTS, and so many more for that philosophy in practice.
So of course, it's the irony of all ironies that my own book is a different animal altogether.
One thing, I can flat-out guarantee: This book isn't going away. This isn't one of those vanity projects that comes out with one issue in hopes that the media rights are exploited, and then unceremoniously walks off into the forest. Mike, Brian and I are 100% committed to DAY MEN and the stories we have to tell. It's the only series I'm working on and the only series Bri is working on, period. Weeks after DAY MEN #1 came out, it was picked up by Universal for a feature film deal. This doesn't affect the publishing in any way. Literally, nothing has changed in that regard. Retailers and fans have asked so I wanted to address the question head on. We're as focused on the series now as we were on day one.
Brian is putting an insane amount of effort into DAY MEN. He's reaching for (and achieving) career-best work. This is a physically and emotionally draining process. He hasn't taken on a project of this scope and volume in a very long time, maybe ever. He's truly going for broke. We're aiming to make every issue of DAY MEN an event.
So here's how we're going to support our retail partners/readers and have their backs in this pursuit. These are special rewards we're offering on issue #2, and this is an approach we’ll take for each issue moving forward:
  • EVERY retailer who orders DAY MEN #2 is going to receive two copies of a special George Pérez variant cover, free of charge. No strings. No order minimums. It's a gift—a thank you. Whether you hide them away for posterity, gift them to your biggest DAY MEN fans, or sell them to underwrite the cost of your DAY MEN #2 stock, they're our gift to you. The cover is beautiful. And if you do the math (two copies multiplied by the number of DM stores ordering DAY MEN), it's clear to see how this is one of the rarer Pérez pieces around. It also has the distinction of being the only comic book cover George has drawn in 2013 and his first published BOOM! Studios work. It's no secret that George is (courageously) dealing with some eye troubles that, as of writing this, have forced him to undergo surgery to see. Naturally, that hasn’t stopped George. The legend can do with one working eye what us mere mortals could only dream of. Check out how great his take on DAY MEN is!

Day Men #2 Variant Cover by George Pérez
Day Men #2 Variant Cover by George Pérez
  • Okay, I'm really excited about this one. The top 50 retailers who order the highest quantities of DAY MEN #2 will be dubbed the "50 Families." In DAY MEN, there are 50 families of vampires that secretly control the world. Well, in the retail community, we're going to sign up 50 retailers that not-so-secretly hold some serious influence in the industry! If you're anointed as one of the 50 Families, you're going to receive some special items that are exclusive to your network. For issue #2, it's going to be a three-color, handmade, 18" x 24" screenprint featuring Brian's art and created by LA-based artist David Kloc, with the name of your store elegantly inscribed on the print by artist/designer Hannah Nance Partlow. There's one other nice little touch to the print that I'll leave as a surprise. We'll also be listing these 50 stores in the comics to promote their operations. Future issues will have additional incentives for the 50 Families of retail.

    Day Men Promo Print

For our fans, our loyal readers who are picking up the single issues, we're going to offer a little something special in issue #2. Check out the backmatter of the issue for more info. I think you'll dig it.
If you're a retailer looking to support DAY MEN and need some extra help, don't hesitate to reach out to retaileroutreach@boom-studios.com.
Those of you who know my story know that I come from a comic book retail background as a buyer. It's where I got my start in the industry; I have an immense amount of respect for the Direct Market retailer and their role in this medium. That background has informed my point-of-view as an Editor-in-Chief and a creator. And it's in part informed the BOOM! philosophy and operation itself. We're lucky to have a huge cross-section of people in the industry right now who are trying to push it forward. These are people that are supporting original stories, new ideas, and different ways of doing things. And there are some amazing retailers who are at the forefront.
It would be impossible to thank all the retailers I'd like in one sitting. But I do need to give a shout-out to a few retailers that went above and beyond for DAY MEN. These are organizations that dug deep and took a position on the book. Larry's Comics gave us a much-needed foothold in New England, where our story primarily takes place. I'm very thankful to have them as a supporter. Also, Marc Nathan of Cards, Comics, & Collectibles and Gary Dills of Laughing Ogre Comics went in on an exclusive cover. Those guys are huge boosters for the series and we're lucky to have them as part of the “We Are BOOM!” team.
Finally, thanks to all of our readers. I've can't even tell you how much your enthusiasm and dedication means to us. We're honored to have you on this journey, straight up. We'll be there with you when the sun rises on December 11th.

Lux in Tenebris,
Matt Gagnon

DAY MEN #2 will arrive in stores on December 11th and carries a retail price of $3.99. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one! It’s also available for order directly from boom-studios.com.

San Francisco to be Turned Into Gotham City for Miles' Make-A-Wish

Via Make-A-Wish:

Come join us for a fun-filled day of everything Bat as a young crime-fighter captures villains and saves the day on November 15th!
Miles may only be 5 years old but he is fighting a very adult battle, one that we hope he will win. Miles has leukemia. He is a bright, positive, little boy who finds inspiration in super-heroes. When we interviewed Miles for a wish, he surprised even his parents: Miles wants to be Batkid!

On November 15th, Miles will get his wish! The day will begin with a breaking news story. San Francisco’s Police Chief will ask if anyone knows the whereabouts of Batkid. The city needs his help to fight crime and capture villains! Our little Batkid, along with Batman, will be ready to answer the call!

After rescuing a damsel-in-distress from the Hyde Street cable-car tracks in Nob Hill, then capturing the Riddler in the act of robbing a downtown vault, Batkid will enjoy lunch at the Burger Bar, near Union Square. After lunch, he will get a special message from the Police Chief and go to the window where he will look down and see a huge crowd of volunteers jumping up and down pleading for Batkid’s help. Why? The Penguin has just kidnapped a famous San Francisco mascot (Lou Seal)! The batmobile will be visible on Union Square, (a convertible offering a view of the crime in progress), and the chase will be on!

After apprehending the Penguin, Batkid will make a final stop at City Hall where the Mayor of San Francisco, Ed Lee, along with the Police Chief, will congratulate him on his daring feats of justice and present him with a key to the city. We hope to have a huge crowd of volunteers and donors there to cheer him on and thank our Batkid!

This is a great opportunity to witness the magic of a wish in action and a perfect outing for kids, families, and Bat-fans everywhere!

Here are ways you can participate:

1) You are invited to catch the action in one of these locations and cheer on Batkid as he fights crime and battles villains:
  • Look on as a flashmob warns Batkid that the Penguin has kidnapped Lou Seal and see them speed away from Union Square - AT CAPACITY
  • Join in a massive celebration at City Hall at 2pm as SF Mayor, Ed Lee, and the Police Chief present Miles with a key to the city and congratulates him on a job well done (approximately 2:00pm) - RSVP
2) You are welcome to capture it on film, video, and in print. We are happy to provide you with additional information about Miles, his wish, our organization, and the sequence of events.

*Make sure to use the #sfbatkid hashtag whenever you are sharing information about Miles' wish!*

WHY WE LOVE IT: In HOPELESS, MAINE VOL. 1: PERSONAL DEMONS, the husband-and-wife team of Tom and Nimue Brown hooked us with their spooky tale of the mysterious, young Salamandra and their Gothic-inspired artwork, so we're ready for more!
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT: Fans of stories like Tom Siddell's GUNNERKRIGG COURT, Ted Naifeh's Courtney Crumrin, and Roman Dirge's Lenore, the Cute Little Dead Girl will see parallels, but the Browns have created an engaging universe in which a young woman becomes empowered—so to speak!
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Continue with the adventures of young Salamandra, the orphaned, mysterious, witch-in-training on the haunted island of Hopeless, Maine. When Sal discovers she might have a grandfather living on the island, she seeks him out, only to find him full of even more mystery than the rest of her past. Before she can unravel the secrets of her family’s past, however, her best friend, Owen, is thrust into a family trauma of his own. Salamandra must choose between helping Owen and finding the home and family she has always longed for.

“As an artist, I’m always looking for creative inspiration and I’m a big fan of humor, especially the irreverent and unpredictable humor theme that runs throughout the Rabbids franchise,” said Todd McFarlane. “I have completely been immersed in the Rabbids universe and it has allowed my and my company’s, creative juices to run wild.  We have been putting the full range of all my company’s talents toward creating some of the funniest and unique products McFarlane Toys has ever produced.”
