Readers Are Over the Moon in Love with 'Jonesy'

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is excited to announce that readers are smitten with Jonesy, the new limited series from heartbreakers Sam Humphries (Legendary Star Lord, Weirdworld) and Caitlin Rose Boyle (Buck n’ Lou & the Night Crew), as the issue has sold out through its first printing at the distributor level. The publisher has rushed to a second printing to fill demand.

Jonesy #1 saw an impressive 46% increase in retailer orders from initial orders to Final Order Cutoff. The debut issue saw another 25% increase when participating retailers placed their order for the second annual In-Store Convention Kickoff exclusive variant cover. This most recent sellout comes on the heels of activity following the In-Store Convention Kickoff.

Jonesy #1 second print ships with a modified cover by Boyle and carries a retail price of $3.99. Orders close on March 21, and copies are anticipated to be in stores on April 6. Jonesy #2 arrives in stores on March 16.

Jonesy is a self-described “cool dork” who spends her time making zines nobody reads, watching anime, and listening to riot grrrl bands and 1D simultaneously. But she has a secret nobody knows: She has the ability to make people fall in love! Anyone, with anything. She’s a teenager in plaid with Cupid powers. There’s only one catch—it doesn’t work on herself. She’s gonna have to find love the old-fashioned way, and in the meantime, figure out how to distract herself from the real emotions she inevitably has to face when her powers go wrong.

Praise for Jonesy #1:

Announced at WonderCon - New Original Series from Kurt Sutter

BOOM! Studios announced LUCAS STAND, an original limited series coming in June from Kurt Sutter, the creator of "Sons of Anarchy." Below you will find the main cover image illustrated by Lee Bermejo and the solicitation information for issue #1, which will debut in comic shops on June 1, 2016.

Ever since we first saw "Sons of Anarchy," we knew creator Kurt Sutter had an amazing comic book story in him. Now we’ve got it in Lucas Stand, his first, original comic book series. If you’ve been looking for a new antihero like Jax Teller to root for, Lucas Stand fits the bill.

Lucas Stand is a military vet who can’t reintegrate into society and has emotionally cut himself off from the people he loves. At his lowest, Lucas does something he can't take back. Hell comes calling, offering him the opportunity to make things right. Demons escaping Hell are upsetting the balance of evil, and now Lucifer has recruited Lucas to send them back. It doesn't matter in what era the demons escape—World War II, old-timey Hollywood, Vietnam, present day—he must learn to fit in both the past and the present. Given new purpose, Lucas starts to rebuild himself and his life, even as he struggles at the human cost that comes with it.

Cosplay at Silicon Valley Comic Con

I attended the very first Silicon Valley Comic Con last weekend in San Jose, California. The three day convention (March 18-20) was a big success, attracting hundreds of cosplayers from around the Bay Area. I saw everything from Ninja Turtles to an awesome Boba Fett/Rocketeer mash-up to Captain Mexico roaming the show floor. Below is a look at some of my favorites from all three days.

Unboxing March's Loot Crate: Versus

Loot Crate tied their March theme into two EPIC face-off's with "Versus." With the release of the second season of Netflix's Daredevil (which features The Punisher) and the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie, it was a no-brainer that we'd get items based on those properties. We also got swag that featured Harley Quinn, Alien vs. Predator, and Star Trek. I know I keep saying this, but this month's box was better than the last. The improvements Loot Crate made at the beginning of the year put them leaps and bounds ahead of other subscription boxes.

The box was full of exclusives like the awesome Batman v Superman Mighty Wallet. This wallet, which is made of Tyvek, is expandable, durable, and is worth just over half the price of the crate itself. The images come straight from the movie posters which feature Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck. Last year, Loot Crate gave us a Simpson's version and I loved it, so getting another one was welcome.

Also in the crate was an exclusive Marvel beanie featuring Daredevil and the Punisher. The cool thing about this beanie is that it's reversible. One side is red and features Daredevil's "DD" logo. The other side is black and and sports the Punisher's skull logo. This was the coolest item in the box by a long shot. Also in the box were an exclusive Harley Quinn #1 comic and a Star Trek "Mirror, Mirror" T-Shirt featuring the art of Juan Ortiz.

Lastly the box contained not one, not two, but THREE Alien vs. Predator items. The first was an epic AvP pin. This thing is beautiful and is definitely going on the jacket. Next was a free rental to stream either the Aliens or Predator movie on the VUDU app. Finally was an exclusive Alien vs Predator blind box which featured one of two figures 4.5" figures. I received the Alien xenomorph with a "special glow-in-the-dark deco on its despicable dome." It's a very cool figure, but being a bigger Predator fan, I wish I'd have gotten it instead. Still, it's a minor quibble over an otherwise perfect box!

Inside this month's crate:

- Alien vs Predator Loot Pin (Loot Crate Labs)
- Aliens or Predator Movie Rental (VUDU)
- Star Trek "Mirror, Mirror" T-Shirt (Quantum Mechanix)
- Daredevil/Punisher Reversible Beanie (Bioworld)
- Batman v Superman Mighty Wallet (Dynomighty)
- Harley Quinn #1 Comic Book (DC Comics)
- Aliens vs Predator 4.5" Vinyl Figure (Titan Merchandise)
