Hasbro has a line of value-priced 12" action figures for their Spider-Man, The Avengers, and Star Wars toy lines. I've never been a fan of them due to their lack of articulation. The price is right (they range from $9.99 to $14.99), but all they can do is...stand there. You can move the arms and legs, but with no joints on the figure, it just looks awkward. As for the sculpts, they can be a hit or miss. Some look pretty good (Hulk) and some look flat out bad (Hawkeye). For a kid, they don't seem like they'd be much fun to play with. For a parent, the low price is awesome.
That being said, Toys R Us just released an exclusive Captain Phasma figure in stores. This one carries a $16.99 price tag, but it's actually a pretty awesome looking figure. Despite the lack of poseability, the figure looks pretty damn menacing when standing there. The metal paint apps look all "shiny and chrome" from a distance, but up close the paint job is pretty horrible. It looks more like a custom "battle damaged" Captain Phasma, if you ask me. I guess I can't really complain though, because I bought it. It was the last one on the peg and I can't imagine all of them looked like that. But, even with the bad paint job, I could not pass it up. If you see one in the wild, consider picking her up before the movie drops and everyone and their grandmother is clamoring for one for Christmas day.
I have yet to bite on any Force Awakens Star Wars toys (primarily because they are all gone) but I need a Phasma in some scale or other. I'll be on the lookout for this one!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great looking figure. Hopefully you can find one with a better paint job!
