Archaia, an imprint of publisher BOOM! Studios, is delighted to announce the newest addition to the epic tales—or tails—of Eisner and Harvey Award-winning creator David Petersen’s beloved Mouse Guard series. Shipping in November, Mouse Guard: Baldwin the Brave and Other Tales is a beautiful hardcover that collects the Mouse Guard short stories that originally appeared in Archaia’s last four Free Comic Book Day offerings, along with two brand-new tales created by Petersen exclusively for this collection.

“Mouse Guard continues to be a perennial favorite for a legion of readers, and it’s easy to see why,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “David is truly a unique talent that approaches everything he creates with passion, innovation, and the handmade touch of an artisan. 10 Favorite Moments From Marvel's 'Age of Ultron' Teaser

By now, everyone and their grandmother has seen Marvel's 'Age of Ultron' teaser. The Internet almost exploded when Marvel dropped the official teaser trailer last week. It currently has over 40 million views on YouTube, roughly 40-ish of which can be attributed me. As many times as I've seen it, the following ten scenes have me shouting at the screen each and every time. If this film is even half as good as the trailer, DC/Warner Bros. has their work cut out for them with 2016's Batman vs. Superman.

"Goodnight!" *Drops Hammer*
Quicksilver in slo-mo
Scarlet Witch using her (mutant?) powers
Black Widow and Hulk sharing a moment
Moar Hawkguy!
Cap, counting blue cars.
Superglue can fix anything. Just sayin'...
The Emovengers
"There are no strings on me."
Batman vs. Superman has nothing on this fight

Plastic Bodies World Premiere - October 30 at 7:30PM in Hollywood, CA

Plastic Bodies, starring Kaitlyn Jenkins of ABC Family's "Bunheads" will have its world premiere at the annual Columbia College Hollywood Festival for the Film Industry at the historic Harmony Gold Theater in Hollywood, CA on October 30th, 2014 at 7:30PM. Melissa Whitman's debut film as a writer/director seeks to push the bounds of female-driven horror.

Plastic Bodies is an exploration into the depths of the demons lurking in the human mind as told by a cast and crew largely consisting of female filmmakers. Original music composed by San Diego's DUET will accompany Whitman's striking visual imagery to express Lucy's collapsing mental state. It is an over saturated descent into a beautiful, plastic, hell.

"I wanted to create a film that is based on the things I dread, the things that keep me up at night. I think many women are tormented by what they see in the mirror." - Melissa Whitman, Writer/Director

"Personally I felt pulled towards this role because it gave me a chance to share my struggles with body image and the torment it plays on our minds as humans. It's such an important topic and I thought this was a crafty way to address the subject while still giving everyone the option to have their own thoughts about the matter at hand." - Kaitlyn Jenkins, Star

Synopsis:

Lucy, is an average sized woman living in a "skinny" world. One night, she is left to work alone in a hip fashion boutique and the pressures of seeking the perfect body begin to get the best of her. She takes an experimental weight loss medication guaranteed to give her the body she wants. Unfortunately, it has unintended side effects causing Lucy to wonder if she's losing her mind, or if something more sinister is at play.

The Plastic Bodies world premiere is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend.

Loot Crate's Big Box of "Fear"

I don't know how Loot Crate consistently sends such awesome boxes every month. The last few months we were treated to some truly cool items like Firefly prop replica money from Quantum Mechanix, Funko Alien Re-Action figures and exclusives like the Funko POP Groot figure, the Joker/Loki mash-up tee and a Star Trek Tribble.

When I learned that this month's theme would be "Fear," I had my doubts that this box would be one that I'd be into. Horror has never been a genre I enjoy, so I figured I'd probably just give away the items I didn't want to keep. Amazingly, Loot Crate sent a box in which ALL of the items are too cool to even consider giving away.

For those that don't know, Loot Crate is a monthly subscription service. For roughly $21.00 a month (that includes shipping!), you get a themed box of goodies hand-picked by the team at Loot Crate.

This month's Loot:

-Super 7 "Death By Kitten" T-Shirt

-Toxic Candy Waste

-Capcom Dead Rising 3 Sledgesaw Hammer Pen- Loot Crate Exclusive

-"How to Survive a Sharknado" Book

-SuperEmoFriends "Oh, Brother" art print by JSalvador

-The Walking Dead #132- Loot Crate Variant

-Loot Crate Labs "Slashes & Bites" Tattoos

-Super 7 "Smite" Jack the Reaper skin Gift Card- Loot Crate Exclusive

Review: Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes

The first Disney Infinity, clearly aimed at kids, was really hit and miss for adults. While the same can be said for the Marvel version of Infinity, this version rides on the coattails of the very successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. If this were another version featuring more Disney movie/TV characters, I definitely wouldn't be as enthusiastic about version 2.0. The starter pack comes with base, game disc, The Avengers play set, 2 toy box game discs,Thor, Iron Man, and Black Widow character pieces.

My biggest gripe with the first Disney Infinity was the fact that you weren't able to cross characters over into other play sets in the main story. It would have been a lot more fun if I could play the Lone Ranger in the Pirates of the Caribbean game. In the Marvel version you can now unlock certain characters in each game. For The Avengers, which comes with the starter pack, you can unlock Nova and Rocket Raccoon by finding ten of their "character coins" which are spread throughout the city. Of course, this also requires you to purchase said characters in order to use them in the game. Rocket can be purchased as a single character, while Nova must be purchased with the Spider-Man play set.

Another great addition to version 2.0 is the skill tree. You can now level up your character with special moves and powers. In the first Infinity it just seemed to be a number that didn't mean anything. This is great for the Iron Man and Thor figures that come with the starter pack. You can build up to more powerful attacks and weapons. It's not so great for Black Widow, who doesn't have super powers or the ability to fly. It unfortunately makes her the least playable character in the set and it's a bummer that she gets the short end of the stick.

The Avengers play set will take players a few hours to get through. It was fun, but could become a bit tedious. The game involves The Avengers running around New York, stopping Frost Giants from attacking citizens while also trying to stop Loki from freezing and taking over the city. There are some fun cameos from Captain Marvel and The Wasp, which will hopefully be seeing their MCU debuts at some point.

I have yet to try out the toy box option. That's never really been my cup of tea, but from other reviews, this is vastly improved and much deeper than the 1.0 version. The starter pack also comes with the toy box game discs "Escape the Kiln" and "Assault on Asgard." I've briefly played through the "Escape the Kiln" game, which I have to say, I found pretty confusing. I found myself jumping
through portals and having to start mid-way through levels I had already played trough. Meaning I had to go through them again to advance. It was frustrating, but still enjoyable.

The $75.00 price tag may seem steep, but there's a lot of value in that bundle. You'll spend hours between the Avengers play set, "Escape the Kiln," and "Assault on Asgard" games. Plus, if you're into world building, you'll spend even more time with the toy box aspect. Throw in the extra play sets (Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy at $35.00 each) and all of the extra characters and you'll get hours and hours of entertainment out of 2.0. It will get expensive, but for this Marvel fan, it's definitely worth it.

BOOM! Studios and Macrocosm Entertainment to Launch Archaia's First Yearlong Series with 'Lantern City'

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce they are teaming up with Macrocosm Entertainment to publish Lantern City, a yearlong 12-issue maxi-series from the Archaia imprint that dives headfirst into the Steampunk genre. This will be the first single issue maxi-series published by Archaia since it first started publishing The Secret History in 2007.

Lantern City is a sci-fi saga set in a world that is a dark mirror of our own. Breathtaking, unfamiliar, and terrifying, the walled metropolis of Lantern City is divided by class and geography. Citizens—those who occupy the sordid street-level neighborhoods—tirelessly keep the city going, while the ruling class of the Grey Empire lives high above the populace where they bargain and manipulate for every ounce of power they can muster. Strange science and a criminal network can be found far below the city in the underground, where violence is the only way to negotiate.

Through the chaos of oppression and rebellion, heroes will rise and empires will topple in this sweeping tale of a world where good, evil, romance, and violence combine like a gearbox to highlight the Steampunk genre as never before.

Macrocosm CEO Trevor Crafts remarked, “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with BOOM! Studios and Archaia. Creativity and innovation has always been the cornerstone of their business. At the heart of the Lantern City saga is a simple question: How far would you go to be with the person you love the most? It is what drives every character and every action they take, good or bad, and we are thrilled to explore this new world and these new stories with Archaia and bring Lantern City to fans all over the world.”

“The entire Macrocosm team blew us away with their passion and what they’ve already built with Lantern City,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “This story has the irresistible draw of the Steampunk genre, and it’s big in scope, which makes us want to explore every inch of Lantern City. When you combine that with a powerful story of love and survival you have the makings of an epic tale. This is the biggest story Archaia has done in single issues yet, and we’re thrilled to be working with Macrocosm to bring Lantern City to comics.”

BOOM! Studios and Archaia will announce additional details about this exciting new series later this year.

Interview: Doctor Who's Robbie Morrison

Titan Comics was the lucky publisher to pick up the licensing rights to BBC's Doctor Who after IDW's run had ended. There was definitely a bit of trepidation amongst fans over whether or not they could deliver. Any fears were put to rest when Titan recently launched two new series' featuring the tenth and eleventh Doctor's. A third series, featuring Peter Capaldi's Twelve, has just made its debut and it looks like another home run for Titan. We got to ask writer Robbie Morrison a few questions about the Doctor and what we can expect from the series.

Geek Hash: I think it would only be right to start off by asking, who's your Doctor?

Robbie Morrison: My Doctors are Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker, with a slight bias towards Baker. I think the Doctors you watch in your youth are probably the ones that have make the most lasting impression. My first memories of the show are of Pertwee strutting his velvet-jacketed stuff & dispatching aliens with Venusian karate, though I could only have been a couple of years old at the time.

I actually remember being mighty peeved when Pertwee regenerated, as the 4th Doctor was less of an action man & more of an outlandish eccentric, but Baker quickly won me over. Mention Dr. Who to me & he’s who I immediately see in my head. Mr. Capaldi is coming up fast, though.

GH: After having seen all of the episodes of the current Doctor and then reading the first issue, I have to say that you did a great job of capturing the voice of Capaldi's Doctor. How hard was that to do with so little to go on?

RM: Thanks, writing grumpy Scotsmen is a speciality of mine. I'd been given a few pointers by Editor Andrew James as to how Capaldi was approaching the character, but hadn't read any scripts or seen much more than the TV trailers for the new show. A lot of it was gut instinct, I guess. I tried to write it as a combination of how I thought Capaldi was going to do it & how I hoped he was going to do it.

GH: Ten and Eleven's series fall into specific timelines in the show. The Tenth after Donna and Eleven's in between "The Big Bang" and "The Impossible Astronaut." There was a reference to Mr. Pink in the first issue, "Terrorformer," so where do these adventures fall in the series' short timeline?

RM: The opening 2-part adventure is planned to take place roughly halfway through the series, probably around the time of 'The Caretaker', where the Doctor learns about Clara and Danny.

GH: Though we're just at the beginning, it's great to see Titan's run of Who comics starting off with creating new companions and villains for the Doctor to contend with. What kind of threats will we see Twelve have to deal with in future issues?

RM: Death Cults, ancient goddesses, genetically enhanced assassins, crashing star-ships, unravelling realities, conquered worlds and supernova sundaes - though not necessarily in that order. Also, Weeping Angels and World War One in my upcoming 10th Doctor arc.

A Quick and Easy Way to Paint Star Lord's Nerf Quad Blaster

I'm not the type that likes to dress up for Halloween. Usually, things go like this,
"Nope, not planning on dressing up," which inevitably leads to, "Shit, it's two days before Halloween! What do I dress as for the party?!?!" So this year, I decided ahead of time that I wasn't going to do the last-minute scramble and that I was going to go as Star Lord. Yup, just like thousands of other people, I'm sure.

I imagine that due to the fact that the Guardians film was considered a "long shot," this is the reason that there are so few options in stores. Star Lord's mask was a bit challenging to find for a decent price. Though I did find it eventually on Amazon.com for $15.00. Then I decided on a replica jacket found on eBay for $100 that was shipped from out of the country. Then of course, I needed a stuffed Rocket Raccoon to come along on my misadventures.

The only major piece left was a blaster. There were only two options; one was a child's-size blaster which was too small and the other was Nerf's Star Lord dart gun. Of course, I opted for the Nerf version. The bad part about that is that the gun comes in a grey and orange color combination (for safety reasons) that is nothing like the film version.

To correct that, I decided to paint the blaster in black and silver. After doing some research, I decided to go the faster/easier route (because life is busy) and paint the blaster without sanding it down. I used the Krylon Fusion silver and black paints and the Krylon gloss spray sealant for this project. The Krylon Fusion paints don't require you to sand and it is made to bond to plastic. The sealant is good to use so that the paint doesn't rub off on anything, like clothing or your hands if you're carrying it around for long periods of time.

The first step was to take the gun apart and document the process (through pictures), so it would be easier to put back together should I get stumped. I made sure to put all of the screws in a cup so they wouldn't get lost. Before proceeding to paint, I made sure all of the pieces were clean and dry.

The next step was using painters tape to cover all of the pieces that I didn't want painted. After that, it was all about putting a few coats of paint on each piece. The paint dries rather quickly, so it only took a couple of hours of coming back to put on another coat. After all of it was painted and dry, I applied the sealant.  After all the pieces were painted and sealed, I put the blaster back together again.

The whole process can be done in a day with a bit of patience. The results weren't bad for my first foray into painting Nerf guns. The final cost of modifying the blaster for my costume was roughly $40.00 for the Nerf gun and paint/sealant/tape.

*NOTE: Please be aware that modifying a blaster this way could be potentially problematic as it could be mistaken for a real weapon.

Step 1: Take apart blaster

Step 2: Tape off blaster

Step 3: Paint blaster

Step 4: Coat blaster with sealant

Step 5: Put blaster back together

PREVIEW: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #1

Writer: Robbie Morrison

Artist: Dave Taylor

Release Date: October 15, 2014

Offering shocks, surprises, and galaxy-shaking revelations, seasoned TARDIS pilot Robbie Morrison (Drowntown, The Authority, 2000AD, Nikolai Dante) and New York Times-bestselling artist Dave Taylor (Batman: Death by Design; 2000AD) mark the start of their first five-issue run by diving headfirst into the console room and pulling all the levers they can – spinning the new Doctor off to his most challenging destination yet!

Freshly regenerated and with a new head full of unanswered questions, the Doctor (as played by Peter Capaldi) whisks Clara Oswald (as played by Jenna Coleman) away to a strange and distant world.

Clara thought she was in for an evening of marking essays on the Metaphysical Poets, followed by going out on a date – or at least trying to. You know, normal stuff.

Instead, she’s facing down exotic flora and fauna in her best dress, backing up the Doctor on a trek through traumatically alien undergrowth – and she doesn’t even know what the Doctor is searching for, or what will try to kill them should they find it!

KaBOOM! Joins Cartoon Network for a Peek ‘Over the Garden Wall’ in Comic Special

KaBOOM!, an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, and Cartoon Network Enterprises, the licensing and merchandising arm of the network, are pleased to announce the November 5th release of Over the Garden Wall, an oversized comic book special based on Cartoon Network’s first original animated mini-series that will air over the course of five nights beginning Monday, November 3rd.

The Over the Garden Wall comic is an oversized, 26-page story written and directly supervised by the mini-series’ creator, Patrick McHale (Adventure Time, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack). Acclaimed cartoonist, illustrator, and colorist Jim Campbell (Star Wars, The Krachmacher), who was personally hand-picked by McHale, is drawing and hand-lettering the entire story himself. Designed to seamlessly tie in with the animated mini-series, the comic story is one of the adventures that brothers Wirt and Greg and their ill-tempered bluebird friend Beatrice go on while trying to find their way home from the Unknown, a strange forest adrift in time. In their attempt to get to Adelaide of the Pasture, a mysterious figure who might have the key to getting them home, they team up with a group of wayward soldiers in search of adventure and risk getting thrown even further into the Unknown.

“Over the Garden Wall is one of those wonderful stories that’s fun and adventurous, and just the right amount of eerie—it’s almost reminiscent of Don Bluth and Tim Burton films,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Patrick has crafted a story that’s set in a strange place, but at its core it’s about siblings growing up and figuring out who they are, and that’s something many of us can relate to. This one-shot, written by Patrick, will be additive to the animated mini-series with an all-new separate, but related story. We can’t wait for you to get lost in the Unknown with us!”

Headlined by an all-star voice-cast that includes Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Collin Dean (The War at Home), and Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men), Over the Garden Wall is Cartoon Network’s first ever mini-series, an animated comedy/fantasy story about two brothers, Wirt and Greg, who are trapped in a mysterious world. In this 10-part production, music plays an important role with a soundtrack full of Americana-influenced original songs. Over the Garden Wall is created by Patrick McHale and produced by Cartoon Network Studios.

The Over the Garden Wall one-shot arrives from KaBOOM! in comic shops on November 5th with a cover price of $4.99. The main cover is illustrated by Jim Campbell, while the retailer incentive cover (1 in 15) is drawn by Patrick McHale. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one! It’s also available for order directly from boom-studios.com.

Interview- The Rage's Pierre Boisserie

'The Rage Volume 1,' written by Pierre Boisserie was released this week from Titan Comics. 'The Rage' imagines a world ravaged by a virus that only affects children, turning them into bloodthirsty zombies. The government keeps all the children locked up until a cure can be found. On the flip side, there is a rising militia whose intent is getting rid of all of the infected children. The story follows Amina, a mother of one of the children, on her quest to save her son. It's an exciting, taught read that grabs you from the start. I got to ask Boisserie a few questions about 'The Rage' and what's next on his plate.

Geek Hash: 'The Rage' is a terrifying new take on the Zombie genre. Definitely a 'Worst case scenario' for parents. What were the seeds of this book?

Pierre Boisserie: When we decided  to work together, Malo Kerfriden asked for something horrific in a decaying world. I thought of two films that impressed me at that time: Children of Men by Alfonso Cuaron and 28 weeks later by Fresnadillo. And don’t ask me why, but it was there, perfectly clear in my mind when I woke up one day: All the kids on the planet are infected and are killing the adults. I didn’t even have a rude evening with my kids the day before!

GH: The first volume sets up your world perfectly. We see a government that wants to contain and cure the children, and a militia that wants to eliminate the infected. In volume 2, do we get to go back and explore what caused the disease in the first place?

PB: No. The cause of the Rage is not important. I wanted to concentrate on the story of a woman looking for a kid, and the reconstruction of a family in a decaying world. Maybe if The Rage finds its audience, will there be follow up dealing with this subject.

GH: You are known for your work on such books as Attoneen, La Banque, and Patxi Babel. Is there a genre you haven't yet touched that you're interested in?

PB: Yes. I have always tried not to be categorized as a genre writer. I have done History, politics, spies, family saga, SF, time-travel, economics, superheroes, even a new take on Robin Hood. The subjects I’m working on are more determined by the people I’m working with.

I’m actually working with co-writers on the history of Rome, with a brand new fantastic and horrific take. And we’re also exploring the impact of religion on our civilization through a new uchronia.

GH: Are there currently plans to translate any of your other titles?

PB: In english, not that I know. But I really hope so. But there are plans to take The Rage to the big screen…
