Get Lost in a Good Book...and Never, Ever Return in BOOM! Studios' 'The Fiction'

Main Cover by David Rubín

Incentive Cover by Tula Lotay

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is excited to announce the June debut of The Fiction, a new limited series from Curt Pires (POP, Mayday) and rising star artist David Rubín (Battling Boy: The Rise of Aurora West) about a group of childhood friends who discover doorways to other worlds through a set of strange books, in the vein of The Unwritten and Jumanji.

“Everyone loves getting pulled into a good story, but what happens if the story doesn’t want to let you back out again?” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Curt has tapped into the ultimate fantasy of escapism and turned it on its head. David is a hugely talented artist who’s been tasked with creating two worlds in The Fiction, and he’s blown us away. This is a series that embraces the beauty and narrative potential of the comic book medium.”

Four childhood friends discover a box of strange books that, when read aloud, can transport them to the beautiful, imaginary worlds described within. But when one of them goes missing, the others vow never to reveal where they’ve been and what they’ve seen. Years later, when one of the remaining kids, now an adult, also mysteriously disappears, it’s up to the last two of the group to dig up their dusty books to find him and finally figure out what happened to their friend all those years ago.

The Fiction #1 arrives in comic shops on June 17th with a main cover by series artist David Rubín for the price of $3.99. Also available in a limited quantity are a 10 Years incentive cover by Frazer Irving (Annihilator, Uncanny X-Men) and a retailer incentive cover by Tula Lotay (Curb Stomp, Supreme: Blue Rose).

May's 1-Up Unboxing

This is the second month in a row that I ordered the 1-Up box, a "Monthly Box of Epic Gear for Geeks and Gamers." Each month is centered around a theme and for the low price of $12.92/month plus shipping, you receive a box valued at $40.00+ filled with items surrounding the theme and each month includes a "guaranteed exclusive EPIC shirt!" I was really impressed with the previous months box (which featured a Captain America Funko POP and a Mario/Batman T-shirt), that I had to keep my subscription going in order see what they had in store for this month.

The theme of the month was "Sidekick" and 1-Up delivered with some pretty cool items. The box featured six collectibles featuring some of Geekdom's favorite sidekicks from Adventure Time, Star Wars, and Super Mario Bros. Items included a Star Wars drawstring backpack, dog tag, Jake sticker, "Love My Sidekick" wristband, BMO plush, and a Tron-inspired BMO/Yoshi T-shirt. Scroll down to check out what was inside!

Main Cover by JJ Harrison

KaBOOM!, an award-winning imprint of publisher BOOM! Studios, and Cartoon Network Enterprises, the licensing and merchandising arm of the network, are pleased to announce the June debut of Clarence, a new comic based on Cartoon Network’s hit animated series. The series joins KaBOOM!’s lineup of successful all-ages comics and graphic novels based on Cartoon Network animated shows, including Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, Amazing World of Gumball, Uncle Grandpa, and Over The Garden Wall. Writer Liz Prince (Tomboy) teams up with artist Evan Palmer (Munchkin) for the heartfelt adventures of Clarence, an optimistic fourth-grader who’s always on the search for fun with his best friends Jeff and Sumo. Life might throw a bully or a grumpy adult in his path, but Clarence puts a stop to that with kindness and treating everyone like a friend.

“Clarence is an honest, hilarious, heartfelt show that reflects the best of childhood, and we’re thrilled to bring these characters to comics for the first time,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Clarence’s optimism is infectious, and it’s carrying over into the comic book series. Check out what the incredibly talented Liz and Evan have planned for him and his friends!”

Clarence #1 arrives in comic shops on June 10th with a main cover by JJ Harrison (Ninja Boy Goes to School) for the price of $3.99. Doctor Who "The Vampires of Venice" Custom Funko POP!'s

I've added two more custom POP! figures to the collection recently. They are Amy Pond and Rory Williams from "The Vampires of Venice" episode of Doctor Who. Since we're getting official POP!'s of our favorite Doctors and villains, with no word yet on any of his companions, I had to have someone for The Doctor to go on adventures with. The figures came in really well-designed custom boxes. This little perk was definitely appreciated as some of the ones I've purchased have come without their original box. That attention to detail extends to the figures themselves. They are top-notch customs that the artist obviously put a lot of time into. Rory is even accurate down to the shirt he wore to his stag party! Unfortunately, Amy comes without her scarf, but that's a minor quibble, because the figure looks great and is just as well done as the Rory figure. Keep scrolling for a closer look at these awesome customs.

These incredible figures were done by Spastic Customs whom you can check out on their website, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and their Etsy store. Please check out their Etsy store for awesome Indiana Jones, Torchwood, Jurassic World customs and more. Very talented artist who I'm hoping to purchase more figures from soon!

POP!'s came in custom boxes

Love the shirt!

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce the June debut of Broken World, a new sci-fi thriller and survival adventure series from Frank J. Barbiere (Five Ghosts, Avengers World) and Christopher Peterson (Grindhouse, Mayday). 'Bravest Warriors: Tales from the Holo John' One-Shot

Main Cover by Jonathan Brandon Sawyer

Incentive Cover by Artyom Trakhanov

KaBOOM!, the all-ages imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, is taking potty humor to the next level with the May debut of the oversized Bravest Warriors: Tales from the Holo John #1. This special one-shot is packed with short stories focused on the Bravest Warriors’ lavish lavatory, the Holo John—a cross between Star Trek’s Holodeck and the wacky irreverence of Bravest Warriors that lets users live out their wildest (or lamest) fantasies—and features a cavalcade of talented creators, including Paul Allor (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Ryan Ferrier (Curb Stomp, D4VE), Kat Leyh (Adventure Time: Marceline Gone Adrift), Mad Rupert (Adventure Time: Banana Guard), Eryk Donovan (Memetic), Adam Del Re, Jorge Corona (Feathers), and John Omohundro, the voice of Danny on the Bravest Warriors animated series!

“I think, deep down, we all wish we had a Holo John,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “But until that technology exists, we’ve enlisted some fantastic talent to showcase the many hilarious adventures that can be had with a holographic toilet. It’s especially exciting to have John Omohundro stepping out of the recording booth to make his comics debut!”

What happens when you flush a pet fish down the Holo John? (Hint: It fantasizes it was a shark instead!) Or what if the Holo John gains sentience and “dreams of electric pee”? All that and more are covered in this collection of short stories about the Bravest Warriors’ out-of-this-world outhouse. Who knew they used their emotions-based powers in the loo, too?

Bravest Warriors: Tales from the Holo John #1 arrives in comic shops on May 27th with a main cover by Jonathan Brandon Sawyer (Critical Hit) for the price of $4.99. Also available in a limited quantity is a retailer incentive cover by Artyom Trakhanov (Regular Show).

Funko POP! Customs

A few of the custom POP's on display

Lately, I've become a huge fan of Funko POP! custom figures. There are tons of creative people doing custom repaints and even creating characters out of Funko's popular line of vinyl figures. You can find artists selling their works on places like eBay, Etsy, and Storenvy. They can seem a bit high priced at first, but you have to consider the time, talent and dedication put into these pieces. Once you look at it from that perspective, spending $60.00 or more for a custom piece becomes a steal. I've started a collection from some very talented folk from all parts of the Internets. I've even picked up a great Guardians of the Galaxy/Funko POP!-inspired painting from Etsy. Here some of my favorite recent purchases.

Silver Surfer from AREA 42 on Storenvy

Crazed Arkham Origins Batman from dkile57 on eBay

Deadpool with metallic paint and flakes from ryu-collectibles on eBay

4:20 Groot from scashauto on eBay

Hawkeye Sings About His Super Powers (Ed Sheeran "Thinking Out Loud" Parody)

I'm just gonna leave this here.

via YouTube

When you’re on a team with the Hulk and Thor
And we’re all up there on the movie screen,
Will the people believe that I’m not quite as tough?
Will anyone even notice me?

But listen I’ve got powers too, they’re pretty sweet.
I promise I can do so much more than just archery.

I’m serious guys.
I’ve got a collection of scarves and berets.
I play trombone in a ska band.
I once got to second base on my Tinder date.
And my cat has got its own Instagram.

I tell you now
I kick ass at Mario Kart.
This year I played an extra in Paul Blart.
I can open a pickle jar.
I’m friggin’ Hawkeye.
Maybe I’m as super as they are.

So maybe I still haven’t lost my virginity.
But when I bowl I always score at least 70, after six beers

Yes I know 'bout Captain America’s strength.
Hulk becomes a towering man.
But I got seventh place in my fantasy league.
And I once butt-dialed Jean-Claude Van Damme.

When I go to Chipotle I get free guac.
I flirt with the cashier and she says I rock.
I own water-resistant socks.
I’m friggin’ Hawkeye.
Maybe I'm as super as they are.

Maybe I'm as super as they are.

Maybe I'm as super as they are.
