FILMS ON COMET IN JANUARY
The Craft (1996)
Teen movies might want you to believe that high school was all about keggers and beautiful cheerleaders, but we prefer The Craft's version of events. Featuring a quartet of angsty teens who turn to witchcraft in the face of personal high school horrors, The Craft casts a spell that leaves you wishing you had an occult store on your local main street.

Labyrinth (1986)
January will mark the second anniversary of the day we lost pop culture legend David Bowie, so this month's COMET is honoring his memory in the best way we coul think of .... by screening one of the most iconic roles of his career. Back in 1986, Bowie stole the show as the Goblin King in Jim Henson's Labyrinth, from the music to the costumes, this was Bowie at his best.

Unboxing December’s Loot Gaming: Stealth
During the Christmas season, Loot Crate offered a half-off discount for some of their most popular crates. I decided to take a shot on one I hadn’t tried yet and went with Loot Gaming. Loot Gaming, much like Loot Crate, takes one theme and chooses video game franchises to curate a box around. December’s theme, Stealth, brought together items from Metal Gear, Assassin’s Creed, Dishonored, and Magic: The Gathering. The crate’s shipping was delayed by about three weeks, but I can’t complain as it was a pretty well-packed box compared to last month’s disappointing Loot Crate.
The first items out of the box were an exclusive Dishonored “WANTED” T-shirt and Metal Gear Solid hat. Having never played Dishonored, I have no opinion on the shirt other than it looks pretty cool. The Metal Gear hat however, I have to say is pretty awesome. Metal Gear on the original PlayStation got me back into gaming in a big bad way. So this hat, for me, is worth the price of admission. Next up was the Loot Gaming Scarab Pin. Because of Loot Crate I’ve started collecting pins and this one’s going on the backpack.
This crate came with TWO figures! One, an exclusive from Assassin’s Creed and the other a random Magic: The Gathering Funko POP! figure. The Assassin’s Creed figure features Bayek and when you fold out the shipping crate, it becomes a star for the figure. My crate came with a Liliana Vess POP! figure. While not too familiar with the character, I love her design and am happy to add her to my already ridiculously huge collection.
Inside December’s Loot Gaming:
-Exclusive Dishonored “Wanted” T-shirt (Loot Crate)
-Metal Gear Solid Alert Hat
-Scarab Pin
-Exclusive Assassin’s Creed Bayek Figure
-Magic: The Gathering Liliana Vess Funko POP! Figure
-Assassin’s Creed Bayek Poster

Max Bemis and Michael Dialynas Invite You to Witness Lucy Dreaming
BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce LUCY DREAMING, a new limited series debuting March 2018 from Say Anything frontman Max Bemis (Moon Knight, Polarity) and GLAAD Award-winning artist Michael Dialynas (The Woods, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) about a young girl who goes to sleep every night and becomes the hero of all of her favorite stories, living out grand adventures and learning more about the reality she lives in than she could ever learn in her waking life.
“I wanted to create a comic book I could give to my daughter when she’s old enough to read,” said Bemis. “Plus, as a kid, I remember enjoying Star Wars, The Goonies, and Indiana Jones—things that were larger-than-life adventures. I wanted to do something like that.”
Lucy is a grumpy, emotive, full-of-life, 13-year-old girl who keeps waking up in the shoes of various archetypal female heroes. One night she’ll wake up as a space princess turned rebel leader, another night she’ll be a reluctant heroine who becomes the symbolic motivation for an entire country to revolt. But as fantastic as these “dreams” are, they carry the same life-and-death stakes as if Lucy was awake in real life. The reason why all this is happening to her, though, is a secret for now.
“I don’t want to spoil why it happens,” Bemis said. “But I will say it’s a confusing time for Lucy. She’s on the cusp of young adulthood and doesn’t feel like she fits in. She looks down on the hypocrisy she sees surrounding her so she’s escaped into the world of fiction.”
BOOM! Studios published Bemis’ first original comics work, Polarity, in 2013, followed by Evil Empire and Oh, Killstrike. With artist Michael Dialynas, the publisher recently published the conclusion to his award-winning, long-running series, The Woods, with writer James Tynion IV.
“After drawing a four-year long YA series on a murderous planet in a galaxy far far away, LUCY DREAMING seemed like a perfect opportunity to stretch my muscles on a fun story involving multiple universes and different genres,” said Dialynas. “The fact that I'll get to play around with a new style AND build up a few new worlds is very exciting for me!”
LUCY DREAMING #1 will have a cover illustrated by interior artist Michael Dialynas. Print copies will be available for sale March 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers like comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.
"Over the past few years, Max has proven himself to be one of the most exciting new voices in comics, with the writing chops to back it up," said Eric Harburn, Editor, BOOM! Studios. "Brought to life by Mike's immense, emotive talents, LUCY DREAMING is fun, dark, aspirational, and thought-provoking."
LUCY DREAMING is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to a world-class group of licensed comic book series and ambitious original series, including Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, WWE, Big Trouble in Little China, Victor LaValle’s Destroyer, Mech Cadet Yu, Grass Kings, and Klaus.

Unboxing December's Loot Crate: Explore
December's Loot Crate franchise line-up was out of this world! With items from Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Destiny 2, I thought that this Christmas crate would be epic. I was wrong. Dead wrong. This was hands down, in my four years of subscribing to Loot Crate, the WORST box I've ever received. I've heard rumblings and read about LC's troubles paying vendors over the past year and a half and I hope this isn't a sign of the start of the decline of the company.
It arrived in probably the biggest box I've ever received from LC. My first thought was, "This is going to be AWESOME!" Until I picked it up and found that it was light as a feather. I thought that maybe there would be a hat or something inside to justify the bigger box. But, when I opened it, there was just a lot of wasted space. I feel like Loot Crate totally dropped the ball and threw together a sub-par crate. A shirt, pin, mini dollar store calendar, comic, and mini build-a-figure came in the crate. There wasn't even a magazine this month; just a slip of paper with a list of the items inside the box.
Inside December's Crate:
-Exclusive Destiny 2 T-shirt (Bungie, Loot Crate)
-Exclusive Star Wars Graphic Novel (Lucasfilm Ltd., IDW)
-Loot Crate Edition Guardians of the Galaxy Mini Calendar (Marvel, ACCO)
-Exclusive Retro Metal Rocket Pin (Loot Crate)
-Gundam Buid-a-Figure (Bandai)

No Ranger Is Safe in ‘Power Rangers: Shattered Grid’
BOOM! Studios and Saban Brands announce POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID, the first comic book event in the twenty-five-year history of the global pop-culture phenomenon. In celebration of Saban’s Power Rangers’ 25th anniversary, the epic event begins on March 21, 2018 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25, by Kyle Higgins and Daniele Di Nicuolo, featuring events so shocking that the issue will be sealed in a black polybag to prevent spoilers!
POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID will unfold in issues from both Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers and include two special one-shots. Lord Drakkon—a twisted alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver (AKA the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger)—and his newly reformed deadly army will cross dimensions in order to execute on a plan that threatens the very existence of every Power Ranger ever. For the first time in comic book history, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will join forces with some of the most popular Power Rangers teams in the franchise to face the threat.
"Call me sentimental, but I love anniversaries. Over the last two years, I've been weaving threads in the pages of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, all leading to the 25th anniversary of the franchise," said Kyle Higgins. "SHATTERED GRID is a massive Power Rangers event that's both a celebration of the property and also the largest comics story I've ever tackled. Lord Drakkon's plan is so much bigger than our Rangers, our world, and even our universe. The Grid is shattering, every Power Ranger in all of existence is at risk, and it's going to take more than just the Mighty Morphin team to stand against Drakkon's armies."
“The key to incorporating Go Go Power Rangers into SHATTERED GRID was making the story integral to the event while never losing the personal stakes of the series—and we are doing that in a really exciting way,” said Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers writer Ryan Parrott, whose series joins the event in April with issue #9. “A fan-favorite Ranger from the future is going to arrive, searching for Drakkon—and end up dividing our team in a very personal way. Thematically, Go Go has always been about examining the past in order to understand the future—and there's no clearer way of doing that than smashing them into one another in real time.”
Polybagged editions of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 will be shipped with six (6) main covers illustrated by Goñi Montes, randomly assorted in equal quantities, featuring Drakkon holding one of the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger helmets. Montes helped launch the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic series from BOOM! Studios with a series of iconic covers on issue #0. A special chase variant by Montes will also be available and mixed in randomly within the polybagged editions. This landmark issue will also feature variants (shipping without polybags) by superstar artist Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man), Jordan Gibson (Howard the Duck), and a stunning wraparound cover featuring every Power Ranger ever by Scott Koblish (Deadpool).
POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID kicks off BOOM! Studios’ celebration of the Power Rangers 25th Anniversary, with additional exciting comics, graphic novels, and more to be announced soon.
Print copies of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 will be available for sale on March 21st, 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the one nearest you) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers like comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.
“SHATTERED GRID has been something we’ve been planning from issue #0, with the singular goal of delivering the biggest Power Rangers story we could tell at BOOM! Studios,” said Dafna Pleban, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “If you think you know where this story is going, think again—we’re making sure each issue of SHATTERED GRID shows you something that no Ranger fan has seen before!”
“From the very beginning, it’s been a joy working with Kyle, Ryan, and the entire team at BOOM! Studios, which is culminating in this fantastic event,” said Brian Casentini, Executive Producer of the Power Rangers franchise. “All of us at Saban Brands are thrilled to be able to bring this fantastic story to Ranger fans all across the world.”
