Marvel Studios Releases an Emotionally Powerful ‘Wakanda Forever’ Teaser

The MCU is closing out its Phase Four with November’s ‘Wakanda Forever.’ This past weekend Marvel Studios dropped the first teaser for the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at their Hall H panel at SDCC. This will be the follow up to 2018’s hit film ‘Black Panther.’ Unfortunately, it will be the first Black Panther film without its star, Chadwick Boseman, who lost his battle with cancer in 2020.

The trailer, with its stunning visuals and music, introduces us to a Wakanda without a king. It’s an emotional tribute to the late actor that brought the character of T’Challa to life with grace, power, and a commanding presence. He can be felt in every musical note and every image of the teaser. That’s in no small part due to the cast, crew, and director Ryan Coogler. To honor both the actor and character is a daunting task that they look to have pulled off with love and compassion.

The trailer gives us our first look at two major new MCU characters. First is Riri Williams/Ironheart, played by Dominique Thorne. In the comics, Ironheart is a genius that builds her own suit of armor comparable to Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit. She follows in his footsteps and becomes a hero in her own right. After ‘Wakanda Forever’ we’ll see Riri in her own Disney+ show, ‘Ironheart.’

The next character is a fan favorite; Namor, the Sub-Mariner. Namor, who looks like he could give Jason Momoa’s Aquaman a run for his money, is played by Tenoch Huerta. In the comics, Namor is a mutant and the King of Atlantis. In the MCU, however, it looks as though Namor and his people may be of Mayan influence. Either way, he's bound to be an exciting addition to the MCU.

‘Wakanda Forever’ also gives us a brief glimpse of the Black Panther in action. Is it a flashback? Has someone taken the mantle of the Black Panther? If so, could it be Shuri, T’Challa’s sister? Fans will have to wait until November 22nd to find out how it all comes together. 

Mark Waid & Peter Krause's IRREDEEMABLE to Return with New Series in 2023

Just 24 hours after the stratospheric launch of THE COMPLETE IRREDEEMABLE DELUXE EDITION LIBRARY on Kickstarter, BOOM! Studios is proud to announce that the series' original creative team – master storyteller Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, World's Finest) and multiple Eisner Award nominee Peter Krause (Power of Shazam!, We Only Kill Each Other) – will be reuniting in 2023 for an all-new series in the IRREDEEMABLE saga. 

“What we can say is that it's not set back in the day. It is a catch up on what the IRREDEEMABLE Universe is all these years later. All that said, I'm sure there's a place for Plutonian in that story because it's his story...” said writer Mark Waid in an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com. "It is an outgrowth of what you saw before. Pete and I are 10 years older and 10 years, hopefully, better at our jobs. So hopefully, it will continue to entertain."

The news was revealed just moments ago, thanks to fan enthusiasm as the ongoing COMPLETE IRREDEEMABLE DELUXE EDITION LIBRARY pre-order campaign on Kickstarter surged past $100,000 in under 24 hours. BOOM! Studios is keeping the details of the new series under wraps, but will be revealing more about the highly anticipated return to the Eisner Award-winning IRREDEEMABLE franchise in the weeks and months to come.

"[With the original IRREDEEMABLE series] I was learning on the job again, it felt like. I just felt like a newcomer... [But] I've stayed very active in drawing comic books [since]. So I feel like the skill level is there. And obviously, I've made the changeover now to working digitally, which gives me a lot of freedom," artist Peter Krause told ComicBook.com. "So I am really looking forward to getting back into the Irredeemable Universe with my full powers intact.”

The news also follows the recent announcement that Netflix is currently developing both IRREDEEMABLE and INCORRUPTIBLE as the foundation of a new feature film franchise  from BAFTA Award-winning director Jeymes Samuel (The Harder They Fall), Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Kemp Powers (Soul), and producers Shawn Carter, James Lassiter, Stephen Christy, and Ross Richie.

Good Morning, Miss Bliss Original Pilot

Saved by the Bell fans know that the show originally started out as "Good Morning, Miss Bliss." The show ran for thirteen episodes on The Disney Channel. The ratings were so low that they decided not to renew it for a second season. "Good Morning, Miss Bliss" was centered around the title character played by Hayley Mills. The show also featured SBTB alums Dennis Haskins, Lark Voorhies, Dustin Diamond, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Their characters magically moved from Indianapolis to California when the show was reworked into Saved by the Bell and aired on NBC Saturday mornings.

There is a little known original pilot that was made before Miss Bliss aired on the Disney Channel. It was only aired once on prime time on NBC. Some of the plot points from the show were dramatically different and featured a wholly different cast. Among them were a handful of very young actors that moved on to become notable on other popular prime time series' (Jonathan Brandis, Jaleel White, and Brian Austin Green). Emily the Criminal Trailer and Poster

Emily (Aubrey Plaza) is saddled with student debt and locked out of the job market due to a minor criminal record. Desperate for income, she takes a shady gig as a “dummy shopper,” buying goods with stolen credit cards supplied by a handsome and charismatic middleman named Youcef (Theo Rossi). Faced with a series of dead-end job interviews, Emily soon finds herself seduced by the quick cash and illicit thrills of black-market capitalism, and increasingly interested in her mentor Youcef. Together, they hatch a plan to bring their business to the next level in Los Angeles.

Unboxing: The Mighty Thor Deluxe Figure

 With the new Marvel film, Thor: Love and Thunder, comes a plethora of new merchandise for fans of the the God of Thunder. The film introduces The Mighty Thor, as played by Natalie Portman. In the film, Thor’s ex-love Jane Foster acquires Mjolnir to become The Mighty Thor. For collectors, that means new figures of the mighty Marvel hero!

 We got a hold of the Mighty Thor 6” deluxe figure from Hasbro. For fans of Hasbro’s action figures we learned last year, in a move to be more eco-conscious, they’d be moving away from using plastic in their packaging. We saw it started last year with the Target exclusive Spider-Man 9-figure packs that had no plastic on the box. This year, they’re starting the same with their Marvel Legends line and deluxe lines.

 That means, unfortunately, that collectors will not be able to see the figure that they are purchasing. We know that sometimes paint and other issues with figures make it past quality control. So there’s a possibility that out of box collectors could get a figure with a wonky eye or some other issue. Another potential issue could be what is known as figure swapping. This is when an unscrupulous collector will purchase a figure and swap it out for a different figure and return it to a brick and mortar store.

 This is the first deluxe line that comes without plastic. We were a little trepidatious about picking up a figure that we couldn’t see. But we figured it’s not any different from ordering online, really. If there were any issues, we could simply exchange it in store. That being said, the box that the figure comes in is bold and bright, which is keeping with the theme of the movie. 

 Upon opening the box, you'll find that the figure comes simply wrapped in plain white tissue. The figure itself is a pretty decent sculpt. I really wasn’t expecting it to look as good as it does. They land squarely in between the basic figure line and the Legends line; not horrible, not the greatest. The figure doesn't have much in the way of articulation: the arms move up and down, the head moves side to side, and the legs can be squeezed together for the hammer spinning action. The hammer spinning action looks cheesy and is not very exciting, adding very little value to the figure overall. Despite that, it's pretty solid looking for a mid-tier figure.

 Along with plastic free packaging, the other big change this year was the price point on Hasbro’s figures. The MSRP on their deluxe figures was $12.99 not too long ago. They crept up to $14.99 with the Spider-Man: No Way Home deluxe figures. They’re now at the $15.99 price point with the Love and Thunder line. Is this price worth it? I'd say no, considering McFarlane's standard DC figures will run you $19.99. They're bigger, better sculpted, and have a lot more articulation. 

With the deluxe line going up in price, this means that the Legends line has crept up also. They now retail for $24.99-$27.99. As nice as they are, with prices going up, it's getting harder to justify collecting whole lines. There is also a Valkyrie and a Thor figure in the deluxe line and with the rise in price, I'd rather purchase something from the Legends line before picking up those two to complete the set.
