'Beast' Poster and Trailer

Sometimes the rustle in the bushes actually is a monster.

Idris Elba (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, The Suicide Squad) stars in a pulse-pounding new thriller about a father and his two teenage daughters who find themselves hunted by a massive rogue lion intent on proving that the savannah has but one apex predator.

Elba plays Dr. Nate Daniels, a recently widowed husband who returns to South Africa, where he first met his wife, on a long-planned trip with their daughters to a game reserve managed by Martin Battles (Sharlto Copley, Russian Doll series, Maleficent), an old family friend and wildlife biologist. But what begins as a journey of healing jolts into a fearsome fight for survival when a lion, a survivor of blood-thirsty poachers who now sees all humans as the enemy, begins stalking them.

Iyana Halley (The Hate U Give, This is Us series) plays Daniels’ 18-year-old daughter, Meredith, and Leah Sava Jeffries (Rel series, Empire series) plays his 13-year-old, Norah.

From visceral, experiential filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur, the director of Everest and Universal Pictures’ 2 Guns and Contraband, Beast is produced by Will Packer, the blockbuster producer of Girls Trip, the Ride Along franchise, and ten movies that have opened No. 1 at the U.S. box office, including Night School, No Good Deed and Think Like a Man, by James Lopez, president of Will Packer Productions, and by Baltasar Kormákur. The film is written by Ryan Engle (Rampage, Non-Stop) from an original story by Jaime Primak Sullivan and is executive produced by Jaime Primak Sullivan and Bernard Bellew.

Supernatural Horror Series SPECS Announced at BOOM! Studios

BOOM! Studios announced SPECS, a mysterious new series from highly acclaimed writer David M. Booher (Canto, All-New Firefly), artist Chris Shehan (House of Slaughter) and colorist Roman Stevens, about a group of misfit teens who mail-order a pair of novelty glasses, and realize they’ve received much more than they bargained for, in stores November 2022.

All that high school students Kenny and Ted want is to not feel like outcasts in their small town in Ohio. But their world is turned upside down when the Magic Specs they ordered unlock a world of unforeseen possibilities. . . and consequences. Their fun starts out innocent enough, but when they wish that their bully would disappear, things take a cursed turn, with far darker results than they thought possible…

Channeling his love of 80’s sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, David M. Booher writes for TV, film, and comics. He co-created and wrote fan-favorite fantasy Canto from IDW, now in development as a motion picture with Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios and with David adapting the screenplay. David’s credits also include All-New Firefly for BOOM! Studios, Killer Queens from Dark Horse Comics, the comic adaptation of Joe Hill’s novella Rain for Image Comics, and Alien Bounty Hunter and Powerless from Vault Comics. An attorney by training, David lives in Los Angeles with his husband and the true brains behind their operation—their adopted greyhounds.

“SPECS is my most personal story so far. As a gay kid who grew up in the Midwest, I know how it feels not to fit it. Kenny and Ted’s story as outsiders, filtered through the lenses of wish-granting novelty glasses, is my way of reminding that little kid that he’ll find his place in the world,” said Booher.

Chris Shehan is an American comic artist living in Austin, TX. They have been published by Vault Comics, Black Mask Studios, Scout Comics, A Wave Blue World, and Titan Books. Chris is best known as the artist for the bestselling series House of Slaughter from BOOM! Studios. They are also the artist and co-creator of The Autumnal from Vault Comics. They can be found on Twitter and Instagram @ChrisShehanArt.

“A story about a magic item that grants wishes… what could possibly go wrong?” said Shehan.  “David Booher, as usual, poured a lot of heart into SPECS and bringing that to life has been such a joy for me.”

SPECS #1 features main cover art by highly acclaimed artist Skylar Patridge (Trial of the Amazons), and variant covers by fan-favorite illustrators Kevin Wada (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Chris Shehan (House of Slaughter), David Talaski (Nightwing), and more.

“SPECS is ’80s adventure movies, supernatural horror, and small town kids going through some very strange events that will change them and their friendships forever,” said Elizabeth Brei, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “David and Chris have perfectly captured the chaos of teens caught in a trap of their own making and it’ll be up to you, dear readers, to find out if they manage to escape with their lives or sanity intact.”

SPECS is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including BRZRKR by Keanu Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney; Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; We Only Find Them When They’re Dead by Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo; Seven Secrets by Tom Taylor and Daniele Di Nicuolo; The Many Deaths of Laila Starr by Ram V and Filipe Andrade; Basilisk by Cullen Bunn and Jonas Scharf; Grim by Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano; and the upcoming series Briar by Christopher Cantwell and Germán García, Stuff of Nightmares by R.L. Stine and A,L. Kaplan, Damn Them All by Si Spurrier and Charlie Adlard; The Approach by Jeremy Haun, Jason A. Hurley, and Jesus Hervas, and Behold, Behemoth by Tate Brombal and Nick Robles. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties, including Dune: House Atreides from Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson, and Dev Pramanik; Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott, Mat Groom, Moises Hidalgo, and Marco Renna; and Magic from Jed McKay and Ig Guara.

Print copies of SPECS #1 will be available for sale in November 2022 exclusively at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Kindle.

Unboxing Merchoid's 3x Mystery Hoodie Bundle

Merchoid, a geek-centric website that sells everything from tees to household items, is currently having a stellar sale on their 3x Mystery Hoodie Bundle! For only $34.99 (taxes and shipping included!), you can get 3 mystery hoodies sent straight to your door. We couldn’t pass up that deal and couldn’t wait to see what we got. For those curious, keep reading to see what was inside our bundle.

All three hoodies we received were awesome, and the price couldn’t be beat. The only issue was that all three were supposed to be size large. One of the hoodies, which came in its own sealed package and had stated it was a large in the description, was actually an XL and too big. That being said, it wasn’t a big deal. Ended up giving it to someone that will fit in and appreciate it, so it was all good. Still scored two other hoodies that we loved.

The first hoodie, which was the XL, was a Gears of War Blue Omen tech hoodie. It was subtle with a logo on the arm and “Gears of War” near the bottom of the sleeve. Loved the look and the quality of this hoodie, but unfortunately it didn’t fit.

The second was a Shang-Chi inspired hoodie. Modeled after Shang-Chi’s MCU costume, this one was my favorite of the three. It was well made, fit well, and looked awesome. This one alone I probably would have paid $34.99 for. Luckily, it was part of this bundle.

The last hoodie was Mega Man themed. This one was a close second right behind the Shang-Chi hoodie. The embroidery on the front that says “Mega Man” is a nice touch. Much nicer than a screen printed logo. The back sports a very cool picture of Mega Man in action. It’s warm, stylish, and fit perfectly.

Overall, the value of the mystery bundle is unbeatable. You get three high quality, licensed hoodies for the price of one. Definitely did not have any buyer’s remorse and would buy a second bundle in a heartbeat if I needed any more hoodies!

Return to the Exciting Sci-Fi World of Afrofuturist Series EVE

BOOM! Studios announced Hugo and Nebula Award-nominated author Victor LaValle (Sabretooth, Victor LaValle’s Destroyer), rising star artist Jo Mi-Gyeong (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), colorist Brittany Peer, and letterer AndWorld Design, will return to the world of the highly acclaimed sci-fi adventure series EVE for a thrilling new five-issue sequel comic book series, EVE: CHILDREN OF THE MOON, in October 2022.

The long-awaited return of the best-selling sci-fi adventure is finally here! Eve seemingly saved the world once already, embarking on a perilous quest to protect what remained of humanity after a deadly virus outbreak… but the story doesn’t end there! Eve, Eve’s sister, and Wexler face new challenges, and a darkness from the past.

Victor LaValle is the author of seven works of fiction including The Ballad of Black Tom, which was a finalist for a Nebula Award, a Hugo Award, a Bram Stoker Award, and the Theodore Sturgeon Award. His latest novel, The Changeling, was released in June 2017. His other books have won the American Book Award, the Shirley Jackson Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Key to Southeast Queens. LaValle is also the writer and creator of the acclaimed comic book series Eve and Victor LaValle’s Destroyer with BOOM! Studios. He teaches at Columbia University and lives in New York City with his wife and kids.

“When EVE came out I didn’t know if readers would love her and her journey as much as I did. It was a gift when they embraced her as much as they did. And when we were done with issue #5, I realized there was more of her story to tell. But not just hers. The whole world we’d built,” said LaValle. “Eve saved the world but what happens the day after that? What if the world doesn’t take too kindly to saviors?”

Jo Mi-Gyeong is a comic artist and illustrator based out of Seoul, Korea, best known for her work on Victor LaValle’s Eve and Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance for BOOM! Studios and the original comic book series Beastlands.

“CHILDREN OF THE MOON is an exciting story that’s completely new while still having strong connections to EVE’s previous adventures,” said Mi-Gyeong. “I'm very excited to go on this journey with Eve, who has grown up, and to show you all the new faces, as well as the various worlds of Eve that we haven't shown yet!”

EVE: CHILDREN OF THE MOON #1 features main cover art by artist Ario Anindito (Star Wars: The High Republic) and variant covers by acclaimed illustrators Jahnoy Lindsay (Hawkeye: Kate Bishop), Miguel Mercado (Mighty Morphin), and Mike Del Mundo (Hulk).

“The story of the end of the world isn’t over yet! Victor and Jo are back to explore newfound corners of the world that Eve and her friends have inherited from previous generations, and discover how they’ll save the planet from newfound dangers with familiar faces and brand new characters,” said Elizabeth Brei, Editor, BOOM! Studios.

EVE: CHILDREN OF THE MOON is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including BRZRKR by Keanu Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney; Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; We Only Find Them When They’re Dead by Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo; Seven Secrets by Tom Taylor and Daniele Di Nicuolo; The Many Deaths of Laila Starr by Ram V and Filipe Andrade; Eve by Victor LaValle and Jo Mi-Gyeong; Basilisk by Cullen Bunn and Jonas Scharf; Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; Alice Ever After by Dan Panosian and Giorgio Spalletta; Grim by Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano, and the upcoming series Briar by Christopher Cantwell and Germán García and Stuff of Nightmares by R.L. Master of Horror R.L. Stine Puts His Twist on Legendary Monsters in STUFF OF NIGHTMARES

BOOM! Studios announced STUFF OF NIGHTMARES, a brand new four-issue limited comic book series from R.L Stine, the legendary author of Fear Street and Goosebumps, who’s back with a chilling new take on iconic creatures from horror legend in his first creator-owned comic book series, with chilling art by A.L. Kaplan (Maw, Jim Henson's The Storyteller), and colors by Roman Titov (Eat the Rich). Available in September 2022.

In the premiere of Stine’s reanimated reimagining, the monster you enounter isn’t the one you thought it’d be—you might be familiar with the classic tale of a mad scientist hell-bent on creating life, but what these two demented brothers have created is something else entirely! Get ready for a darker, more gruesome, and even more terrifying series for horror fans who are ready to face their fears in … STUFF OF NIGHTMARES!

R.L. Stine is one of the best-selling children's authors in history. Now in its 30th year, Goosebumps has sold more than 400 million books. The Goosebumps series made R.L. Stine a worldwide publishing celebrity (and Jeopardy answer). His other popular children’s book series include Fear Street, (recently revived as a feature film trilogy), The Garbage Pail Kids, Mostly Ghostly, The Nightmare Room, and Rotten School. His newest Disney+ TV series is Just Beyond, based on his graphic novels for BOOM! Studios. Other titles include: It's The First Day of School Forever, A Midsummer Night's Scream, Young Scrooge, and two picture books, with Marc Brown—The Little Shop of Monsters and Mary McScary. R.L. lives in New York City with his wife Jane, an editor and publisher.

“AT LAST I'm free to let my most horrific fantasies out! Hey, kids-- stay away from STUFF OF NIGHTMARES,” said R.L. Stine. “It's my first horror comic book work for grownups. Ghastly, gory, and I hope, good stomach-churning fun!”

A.L. Kaplan is an American cartoonist and horror aficionado currently living, drawing, and blasting doom metal to his cats in the Wild West. He is best known for his work as the artist on Jude Ellison S. Doyle’s original series Maw, as well as Jim Henson's The Storyteller from BOOM! Studios. He also self-published the comic Full-Spectrum Therapy.

"As a lifelong fan of horror, and especially R.L. Stine, it's been an exciting experience to work with him on this dark and twisted series about the monsters that fuel our nightmares,” said Kaplan. “It was thrilling to get a chance to bring the truly macabre and creepy elements of the characters that Stine created onto the page so I hope readers get just as many chills down their spine as I did when they read this series for the very first time!"

Fans won’t want to miss celebrating the series premiere STUFF OF NIGHTMARES #1 with a main cover from acclaimed artist Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie) and highly collectible variant cover art by illustrators Miguel Mercado (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Adam Gorham (The Immortal Hulk), Jenny Frison (Wonder Woman), and Kyle Holtz (Savage Spider-man), as well as an incredibly rare variant cover from artist Björn Barends (Something is Killing the Children) signed by R.L. Stine and not one but two extra spooky glow-in-the-dark covers by Francavilla and original Goosebumps cover artist Tim Jacobus!

“For all of us who grew up reading R.L. Stine’s work, we now have something terrifying to sink our teeth into as adults, especially those who have a sordid love for Fear Street, EC Comics, and classic horror,” said Bryce Carlson, VP, Editorial & Creative Strategy BOOM! Studios. “I can’t wait for the Nightmare Keeper to lead everyone into this horrifying new series that is truly the STUFF OF NIGHTMARES!”
