Unboxing February's Geek Fuel

Decided to give Geek Fuel a spin since they were doing a promotion last month. Geek Fuel is a sub box similar to Loot Crate with a box of exclusive geek gear. This month’s box was packed with five items from comics, film, and video games.

First up, was an exclusive Black Panther print by Florey. The King of Wakanda print came in two colors. One was red and the other was a “rare purple variant.”

Next in the box was a pair of ninja Star fridge magnets. Geeks love ninja’s and these magnets will keep your pictures and to-do lists safely stuck to your fridge.

For game fans, Geek Fuel included a copy of Ratz Instagib. This “one-hit, one-kill FPS arena shooter” is downloadable via Steam.

The Geek Fuel licensed Pin Palz line kicks off with the classic 80’s film, Big Trouble in Little China. There was one of five pins randomly inserted into each box.

The final item was a Geek Fuel exclusive Castlevania T-shirt. The tee, based on the box art of the classic 80’s game, came in two colors; baby blue and grey.

Inside this month’s Geek Fuel:

-Castlevania T-Shirt
-Black Panther Print

BOOM! Studios Bundles Up for Nuclear Winter

BOOM! Studios is excited to announce the first volume of NUCLEAR WINTER, a humorous, slice-of-life original graphic novel (OGN) coming May 2018 from cartoonist Cab about a young woman just trying to survive her twenties in Montreal—albeit a Montreal that’s been plunged into an eternal winter with radioactive snow, thanks to an accident at the local nuclear power plant that occurred nine years ago. Life goes on for folks like Flavie Beaumont, a mail courier on snowmobile who’s carved out a pretty normal life for herself despite mutant rivals, eclectic urban wildlife, and unrelenting meteorological events.

“I've always loved the more cartoony spin on nuclear energy, be it the Simpsons power plant, glowing radioactive ooze, or anything marked with the radiation sign,” said Cab. “But beyond the humorous sci-fi aspect of the story, I wanted to show the love-hate relationship Montrealers have with their winter. Most people who hear the premise of a never-ending winter get weak in the knees at the thought!

“In the end, it's all about a slightly off version of where I live—with an extra few feet of snow and a few glowing clouds!”

NUCLEAR WINTER Volume One is the latest OGN release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed BOOM! Box imprint, home to popular original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn A. Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; The Backstagers by James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh; SLAM! by Pamela Ribon and Veronica Fish; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

“I’m a massive fan of Canadian cartoonists, and Cab’s work on NUCLEAR WINTER is gorgeous, engaging, and entertaining, with plenty of regional charm and character, along with a healthy helping of pure joy,” said Shannon Watters, Editor, BOOM! Studios.

Print copies of the English-language debut of NUCLEAR WINTER Volume One will be available for sale May 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one); booksellers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million; or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers like comiXology, iBooks, Google Play,  and the BOOM! Studios app.

Unboxing January’s Crate: Discover

This month’s Loot Crate theme, Discover, brought together some big franchises. Harry Potter, Westworld, X-Files, and Rick and Morty were packed into the latest crate. Lately the crates have been pretty hit or miss for myself and most fans of LC. For this one, as much as I’m a fan of the franchises, this crate was a miss and has me questioning whether or not I should continue with my subscription.

This month’s shirt featured an awesome Rick and Morty design. As much as I dug it, I’m not a fan of white T-shirts. But beyond that, it’s a great shirt that stands toe-to-toe with any fans can pick up at any big box store.

Next in the crate were two Westworld exclusives. The first item was the second LC SuperEmoScenes Diorama. These are pretty fun if you’re a fan of the JSalvador line of SuperEmoFriends prints. These dioramas bring those to life in a fun way. The second item was a Westworld Maze pin. Always a big fan of the Loot Crate pins.

Up next was a pair of exclusive Harry Potter socks. Loot Crates loves to add socks to their crates, which has led to my sock addiction. This pair of socks features the sorting hat and each houses animal emblems.

Finally, Looter’s received a new X-Files card game from IDW. The two player game comes in an “FBI style wallet” and “includes replicas of Mulder and Scully’s ID cards to use as player avatars.”

Inside this month’s crate:

-Rick and Morty T-shirt (Cartoon Network)

-Westworld SuperEmoFriends Diorama (Loot Crate)

-Harry Potter Sorting Hat Socks (HYP Hosiery)

-Westworld Maze Pin (Loot Crate)

-X-Files Card Game (IDW)

Adventure Time: BMO Bonanza is Charged Up and Ready to Play

BOOM! Studios and Cartoon Network Enterprises announce ADVENTURE TIME: BMO BONANZA, a one-shot comic book special debuting March 2018 that peeks into BMO’s springtime adventures in the land of Ooo. Ever wondered what BMO is up to when they’re not trying to keep Finn and Jake out of trouble? In this collection of short stories, creators Cynthia Cheng (College Humor Comics), Laura Langston (Adventure Time), Nicole Mannino (This is Not Fiction, Adventure Time),
Boya Sun (5 Worlds: The Sand Warrior), Ian Moore, and Shirley Chan follow the multi-skilled console on their very own adventure time.

“BMO is really excited to see the rare Spring Flower bloom and asked Jake and Finn to join on her adventure,” explained Boya Sun, talking about their story. “After a crazy trip, they finally reached the destination, but the flower was not what they had expected…”

“I love how earnest BMO is!” said Nicole Mannino. “They put their heart into everything they do and always takes their work very seriously, despite how silly it seems. Plus, they’re always so cute about it!”

ADVENTURE TIME: BMO BONANZA is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed KaBOOM! imprint, publisher of world-class licensed series such as Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, Peanuts, and Garfield, along with original series like Brave Chef Brianna by Sam Sykes and Selina Espiritu, and The Deep by Tom Taylor and James Brouwer. KaBOOM! has been the home for Adventure Time comics since 2012 and has expanded into several limited series, original graphic novels, and a second ongoing series.

“Everyone loves BMO, as they should, and we’re thrilled to finally BMO their own dedicated special,” said Whitney Leopard, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “We’ve assembled a great roster of creators who will each give BMO the starring role they rightfully deserve!”

Print copies of ADVENTURE TIME: BMO BONANZA will be available for sale March 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore.
