Unboxing December's Marvel Collector's Corps: Guardians of the Galaxy

When Marvel and Funko announced that December's Collector Corps box would be their biggest ever, they weren't joking; this thing was a beast. Many people assumed from the announcement that we were going to possibly see a POP! Ride in the box. When people started receiving their boxes, there were many that were very vocal on social media over their disappointment with it. The anger came mainly from the fact that the box didn't contain a POP! figure; the reason most people purchase the box in the first place. Despite all of the negativity over this Christmas/winter-themed box, I personally thought that it was a fun one.

The first three items packed inside of the box were a Groot pin, Rocket Raccoon patch, and a copy of 'Guardians of Infinity' #1 MCC variant. I love the patches and have been saving them to add to a laptop bag I have. The next items inside were a pair of Groot and Rocket Raccoon POP! Bobblers ornaments. These things are super cute and if I had a Christmas tree, these guys would surely be hanging from it. Finally, rounding out the box was a very cool Star Lord POP! ceramic mug and an awesome Guardians scarf. The high quality scarf features the silhouettes of the team and the Guardians logo on one side and potted Baby Groot on the other.

In this month's box:

- 'Guardians of Infinity' #1 MCC variant cover
- Rocket Raccoon MCC Patch
- Groot MCC Pin
- Guardians of the Galaxy Scarf
- Star Lord Ceramic POP! Mug
- POP! Bobblers Vinyl Ornaments

Unboxing December's Loot Crate: Galaxy

Loot Crate finished 2015 strong and fucking killed it with their December box. When they announced that the theme would be 'Galaxy,' it was pretty obvious that Star Wars would be involved. When they announced that there would be an exclusive POP! included, it was already a win for me. When I finally received my crate, I was definitely one happy Looter.

This crate gave us TWO exclusive Star Wars items this month- a pair of BB-8 crew socks and an Episode VII Han Solo (Snow Gear) Funko POP! vinyl bobble-head! The exclusives didn't stop there, because we also got a Halo 5 tin box, an Ugly Holiday Sweater T-Shirt, and an authentic Galaxy Quest prop replica patch. Rounding out the box were a metallic gold Loot Crate button, a copy of LC Magazine and a Halo 5: Guardians REQ Pack DLC.

Inside this month's box:

- Loot Crate 'Galaxy' Button (Loot Crate Labs)
- Star Wars Han Solo (Snow Gear) Funko POP! Figure (Funko)

BOOM! Studios Launches Softcover Program for Archaia's Best-selling Original Graphic Novel Series 'Rust'

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is excited to announce the March 2016 release of Royden Lepp’s Rust: The Boy Soldier, the vanguard of a new softcover program for the Archaia imprint.

Rust: The Boy Soldier collects the prelude stories from the first three original graphic novels (Rust: Visitor in the Field, Rust: Secrets of the Cell, and Rust: Death of the Rocket Boy) and presents them in  new reading order with the never-before-seen prelude from the upcoming fourth installment, Rust: Soul in the Machine (2017). The inaugural volume will ship with an introductory price of $10.99.

Rust: The Boy Soldier chronicles Jet’s experiences during a massive world war. Made to look like a boy, but actually a robot built for battle, Jet is caught in the middle. While trying to save countless lives, Jet discovers there’s more to him than he could have imagined. His experiences in the war set him on a journey to learn what it means to be both hero and human.

“With the fourth volume of Rust on the horizon, we want this softcover program to get existing readers excited all over again, plus invite new readers into this fantastic world that Royden has created,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Rust: The Boy Soldier is a great gateway for those not familiar with the story of Jet Jones the robot boy, and I think the never-before-seen prelude from the fourth volume is the perfect reason for longtime fans to pick it up!”

Outside of the prelude stories, the Rust series follows Jet, post-war, after he is thrust into the lives of the Taylor family, having crashed into the side of their barn. Oldest son Roman Taylor struggles to keep his family’s small farm afloat as the area heals from the war. While the rest of his family may not trust the mysterious boy with the jetpack, Roman believes the secrets of Jet’s past may be the key to their survival . . . The first volume, Rust: Visitor in the Field, will be released in softcover in fall 2016.

Rust: The Boy Soldier (6” x 9”, 144 pages, sepia-toned, softcover, $10.99), written and illustrated by Royden Lepp, will be available for sale in comic book shops and wherever books are sold in March 2016.

Unboxing December's Geek Fuel

So, I stuck with Geek Fuel for another month because I was curious to see if it got better. Like I said in my previous unboxing, it didn't "wow" me, but neither does Loot Crate 100% of the time. I have to say, I was very glad I stuck with it. When I pulled the box out of my mail box, my first thought was, "What the hell is in here, a brick?" because it was heavier than any other subscription boxes I'd received.

When I opened it up, the first thing I saw was some very cool 8-bit wrapping paper. It features all our favorite Nintendo franchises- Super Mario, Zelda, and Mega Man. Digging further into the box, I had to know what weighed so much! I found that it was a very very cool hardcover Simpsons book, "Bart Simpson's Manual of Mischief." It was one of two possible Simpson's books in this month's box; the other being "Homer Simpson's Little Book of Laziness." Being a long-time Simpson's fan, I was ecstatic to get this book, which retails for more than the price of the Geek Fuel box. That was only topped by the awesome and exclusive 'The Dark Knightmare Before Christmas' T-Shirt.

Also inside the box were TWO downloadable games- 'Devil's Bluff' and '2 Bloo Kid.' Then, to celebrate the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we were treated to four Star Wars items! First was a Geek Fuel greeting card featuring R2-D2 and the Geek Fuel Robot, followed by 'Liquid Sabers' candy, a BB-8 eraser, and a Star Wars Death Star mold to use for, "candy, crafts, or cocktails." Some boxes also had Star Wars movie tickets randomly inserted into them (not mine).

Inside this month's box:

- The Dark Knightmare Before Christmas T-Shirt
- Liquid Sabers Candy
- BB-8 Eraser
- Star Wars Death Star Mold
- Geek Fuel Greeting Card
- Bart Simpson's "Manual of Mischief" Book
- 8-Bit Gift Wrap
- 2 Full Downloadable Games- 'Devil's Bluff' & '2 Bloo Kid

Geeky gift wrap just in time for Xmas

Video games and candy!

LOVE this shirt!

Unboxing November's Geek Fuel

A friend that knows that I love geeky subscription boxes text me asking if I'd heard of Geek Fuel. I hadn't, so of course I hopped onto my computer and looked it up. Geek Fuel is a "Monthly mystery box of geeky goodness." For $23.90 per month you get an exclusive T-Shirt, a full video game (playable on STEAM), toys, collectibles, and more. I signed up during their Black Friday promotion, so my box also included $30 worth of bonus Star Wars items.

The bright red box arrived in the mail and I immediately took it inside and dug right in. On the top of the box was a black plastic bag with a sticker on it that read, "Bonus." Inside where the Star Wars items promised in their Black Friday promotion. The bonus items were a Dynamic Forces variant cover of Star Wars #1, a Boba Fett sticker, and a pillowcase featuring Admiral Ackbar with his infamous "It's a trap" line from Return of the Jedi. Not bad, but I'm not sure if I'll actually use any of these items, so they'll probably be given away for Christmas.

Unlike other subscription boxes, there doesn't seem to be a theme from month to month. If there is, I can't make the connection, and they don't have it posted on their website or Facebook page. That's not a bad thing at all, I'm just used to seeing one in other boxes. Ultimately it doesn't matter, I'm just here to get my hands on some cool geeky stuff.

The exclusive T-Shirt in month's box, "Assemble the Resistance," was a Star Wars: The Force Awakens tee depicting a "Resistance Fighter" model building kit. Also exclusive to the box were the monthly Geek Fuel magazine and a mini book that contained an excerpt of Russ Pitts' "How Video Games are Made." Included was a download code for a full copy Defense Grid 2, the game featured in the book.

Rounding out the box were a deck of 30th anniversary Ghostbusters playing cards, Pac-Man salt and pepper shakers, a "War Never Changes" propaganda poster, Hunger Games sticker, and Fallout Vault-Tec security key card. The key card was used to see if your number unlocked the Fallout vault. The winner received an Xbox One/Fallout 4 bundle. To be honest, I wasn't wowed by this box, but I'm going to try out next December's box before making a decision on whether or not to keep my subscription active.

Inside this month's box:

- Exclusive "Assemble the Resistance" T-Shirt
- Geek Fuel Magazine
- "How Video Games are Made" Excerpt and Defense Grid 2 Download
- Deck of Ghostbusters Playing Cards
- Pac-Man Salt and Pepper Shakers
- "War Never Changes" Propaganda Poster
- Hunger Games Sticker
- Fallout Vault-Tec Security Card

Unboxing Fugitive Toys' F-Box December 2015 Edition

Fugitive Toys is an online site that specializes in selling vinyl toys. They had their own version of a monthly mystery box, known as F-Box, that is/was insanely popular within the Funko POP! community. While it was themed, it was not a monthly subscription box, like many others are. In order to obtain one, fans would have to follow their Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages in order to see when sales for them went live. They usually contained exclusive and hard to find POP!'s as well as other cool items centered around the theme.

Because of the limited number, they would literally sell out within minutes of going up for sale. People were so passionate about getting one that earlier this year, due to threats of violence against Fugitive Toys employees, they stopped offering them. In a statement from Fugitive Toys, they said, "Effective immediately, the F Box will be taking a break. It may be a month or two, or it may be forever." This Christmas, Fugitive decided to put together an F-Box to celebrate the season and offer it to fans after months of being off the radar. There's no word on whether or not this was a one-time F-Box for Christmas or if it's back for good.

This was my first F-Box, as I was never quick enough to get one when they were offered regularly. Excitement was high when this showed up on my doorstep. I tore into this bad boy as soon as I got inside. The first thing I saw was a black Santa hat with the words, "Bah-Humbug" on it. Digging further into the box, I peeped my first Funko Horror Dorbz (Jason) and a Nightmare Before Christmas POP! keychain (Vampire Teddy). After that, I got to the good stuff- the POP! figures! I pulled out a Santa Claus (Awesome!) from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Fugitive Toys exclusive Zombie Ed from Shaun of the Dead. The Ed was an awesome surprise as I had literally just gotten home after picking up a Shaun figure from Toys R Us earlier in the day. Definitely worth the $23.00 (plus shipping) for this box, hopefully it comes back monthly!

In this month's F-Box:

- Fugitive Toys Exclusive Ed (Shaun of the Dead) POP! Figure
- Santa Claus (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) POP! Figure
- Jason Vorhees (Friday the 13th) Funko Dorbz Figure
- Vampire Teddy (Nightmare Before Christmas) POP! Keychain
- "Bah-Humbug" Santa Hat
