Unboxing December's Loot Crate: Revolution

This month's Loot Crate theme was "Revolution." I was excited when they announced that the crate would include an exclusive Funko POP! figure. I knew that would be the highlight of this month's box for me. The franchises included were Assassin's Creed, Firefly, and Mr. Robot. I had assumed the POP! figure would be an Assassin's Creed one because the film was set to be released on Christmas. Unfortunately, social media spoiled the surprise early, but I was still excited for the figure.

The box included a Firefly Independents replica patch from QMx. I love all of the exclusive  QMx replicas and figures that we've gotten in our crates this past year, I hope they'll continue the trend in 2017. Also in this month's crate were an Assassin's Creed pin (with an downloadable excerpt from the new AC novel), a Mr. Robot T-Shirt, and an exclusive Figure Fantasy book with a $25 coupon from Sideshow Collectibles.

Inside this month's box:

-Exclusive Assassin's Creed Aguilar POP! figure (Funko)
-Exclusive Firefly Independents Patch (QMx)
-Exclusive Mr. Robot fsociety T-shirt (NBCUniversal)
-Exclusive Figure Fantasy Hardcover Book (Insight Editions)
-Assassin's Creed Pin+DLC (Ubisoft/Loot Crate)

KaBOOM! to Debut ‘Adventure Time: Islands’ Original Graphic Novel in November

KaBOOM!, an award-winning imprint of publisher BOOM! Studios, and Cartoon Network Enterprises, the licensing and merchandising arm of the network, are excited to announce Adventure Time: Islands, a new original graphic novel coming in November.

Written by show writer Ashly Burch and illustrated by Diigii Daguna, the Adventure Time: Islands original graphic novel stars Bunny Girl (a.k.a. Jo) and is set roughly a thousand years before the current Adventure Time timeline.

Launched in February 2012, KaBOOM!'s award-winning Adventure Time comics are based on the hit Cartoon Network original series. From the mind of series creator Pendleton Ward and produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Adventure Time follows the unlikely heroes Finn and Jake, best buddies who traverse the mystical Land of Ooo and encounter its colorful inhabitants—and always find themselves in the middle of heart-pounding escapades. To date, KaBOOM! has published over 50 issues of the main Adventure Time comic series, eight original graphic novels, several spinoff limited series, and recently launched a new ongoing series called Adventure Time Comics.

Adventure Time: Islands will feature a cover illustrated by the artist team of Braden Lamb & Shelli Paroline, who were the original artists on KaBOOM!’s Adventure Time comics for the first 36 issues. It carries a retail price of $9.99. It will be released in November 2016 and is available to pre-order now through local comic book shops or booksellers.

Sons of Anarchy Creator Kurt Sutter Announces Sisters of Sorrow From BOOM! Studios

Kurt Sutter announces the creation of a new series, SISTERS OF SORROW, with comic book publisher BOOM! Studios. The prolific creator of television shows (Sons of Anarchy, The Bastard Executioner, upcoming Mayans MC) and feature films (Southpaw) is originating new content in the world of comic books first.

This new concept is the latest in a line of comic books and graphic novels from the top-rated Sutter at BOOM! Studios. Previously, Sutter supervised new, original stories in BOOM!’s hit SONS OF ANARCHY comic book series and launched an original miniseries, LUCAS STAND, with the best-selling award-winning publisher.

“I’ve been wanting to create a mythology around kick-ass female characters—and in this current sociopolitical climate, it seems more important than ever,” said Sutter. “SISTERS OF SORROW is the story of four women, all victims of violent crimes, who unite to exact revenge on their perpetrators. By day, they are peaceful community activists in downtown LA. By night, they don bulletproof black leather under crisp white habits, strapped with state-of-the art weapons and the skills to use them.

“Yep, nuns with guns, baby.”

SISTERS OF SORROW is set to debut in July 2017 at San Diego Comic-Con International.

“One of my favorite parts of the creation process in comics is when you find collaborators that you're immediately in lockstep with,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Ever since we started working with Kurt on the Sons of Anarchy comic books and then on Lucas Stand, we feel like we've found a creative brother. We literally couldn't be happier with this partnership. With SISTERS OF SORROW, Kurt has cooked up a wickedly hard-hitting series that features complex characters and a killer concept. In other words, SISTERS OF SORROW is pure Sutter.”

Kurt Sutter is the creator, writer, producer, director, and actor behind the hit FX television show SONS OF ANARCHY. He is also the creator, writer, and producer of BASTARD EXECUTIONER and worked as a writer, producer, director, and actor on THE SHIELD. He is currently developing MAYANS MC, a spinoff series from SONS OF ANARCHY. Sutter previously partnered with BOOM! Studios and 20th Century Fox to produce 25 issues of the SONS OF ANARCHY comic book, and is currently producing SONS OF ANARCHY: REDWOOD ORIGINAL, a comic series that follows Jax Teller before he becomes a club member.

SISTERS OF SORROW marks Sutter’s second original series with BOOM! Studios. Their previous collaboration, LUCAS STAND (co-written by Caitlin Kittredge and illustrated by Jesús Hervás), was hailed by IGN as “compelling” and “winning,” and Comic Book Resources said, “Sutter and Kittredge put their narrative money where their mouth is, and it pays off,” adding, “[it’s] more than enough to fill the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ hole in your heart.” The success of their first collaboration prompted the highly sought-after showrunner to bring the second in a series of projects to BOOM! Studios.

Main Cover and Details for 'Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern' #1 Revealed

BOOM! Studios, DC, and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products are excited to bring together two celebrated pop culture properties in a historic comics crossover event when the talking simians of the Planet of the Apes meet the Emerald Crusaders of the Green Lantern Corps. Written by Robbie Thompson (Silk) and Justin Jordan (Green Lantern), and illustrated by Barnaby Bagenda (The Omega Men), Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern debuts February 1, 2017 as a six-issue monthly limited series

"We've been having endless amounts of fun collaborating with our friends at DC Entertainment and this new crossover only ups the ante,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Both Planet of the Apes and Green Lantern boast decades of entertaining stories and dozens of fan-favorite characters. The result of crossing over these two incredible franchises is an ambitious, epic story that's brimming with one of the most enjoyable cast of characters in all of comics."

When Taylor goes missing, Cornelius investigates and discovers an ancient ring, unlike anything he has ever seen. As its power echoes through the stars, the Guardians of the Universe must reveal to their Lanterns a secret they had hoped would remain buried. With the Green Lantern Corps, led by Hal Jordan, racing to get to the source of this power before Sinestro can get his hands on it, they will discover a truth that will change them forever on...the Planet of the Apes!

“We’re excited to partner with BOOM! Studios for another fascinating crossover, combining favorite characters in an epic adventure,” said Hank Kanalz, Senior Vice President, Editorial Strategy and Administration, DC Entertainment. “A Green Lantern Ring seeks out one who is utterly honest and born without fear, so landing a Ring on the Planet of the Apes is filled with unlimited potential. The real fun begins when other rings—and other apes—get thrown in the mix!”

The main cover to issue #1 is illustrated by iconic Green Lantern artist Ethan Van Sciver. Variant covers include a movie poster homage cover by Steve Morris (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), a Silver Age-themed cover by Paul Rivoche (Batman ‘66), a foil-stamped cover by Felipe Massafera (Wonder Woman), and a vintage action figure cover by David Ryan Robinson (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers).

Read Anna Kendrick's Hilarious New Autobiography!

Scrappy Little Nobody
By Anna Kendrick

A collection of humorous autobiographical essays by the Academy Award–nominated actress and star of Up in the Air and Pitch Perfect.

“The Pitch Perfect star can sing, act, and write hilarious tweets. Fortunately she’s imbued the pieces in Scrappy Little Nobody with that same humor.” —Entertainment Weekly

“Kendrick has won legions of fans for her movies and her quips on Twitter, and her wit continues in this collection of autobiographical essays recounting some of the most memorable, charming, and even relatable moments of her life—from growing up in New England suburbia to working her way up to become one of Hollywood’s darlings.” —Buzzfeed.com

Even before she made a name for herself on the silver screen starring in films like Pitch Perfect, Up in the Air, Twilight, and Into the Woods, Anna Kendrick was unusually small, weird, and “10 percent defiant.”

At the ripe age of thirteen, she had already resolved to “keep the crazy inside my head where it belonged. Forever. But here’s the thing about crazy: It. Wants. Out.” In Scrappy Little Nobody, she invites readers inside her brain, sharing extraordinary and charmingly ordinary stories with candor and winningly wry observations.

With her razor-sharp wit, Anna recounts the absurdities she’s experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture as only she can—from her unusual path to the performing arts (Vanilla Ice and baggy neon pants may have played a role) to her double life as a middle-school student who also starred on Broadway to her initial “dating experiments” (including only liking boys who didn’t like her back) to reviewing a binder full of butt doubles to her struggle to live like an adult woman instead of a perpetual “man-child.”

Enter Anna’s world and follow her rise from “scrappy little nobody” to somebody who dazzles on the stage, the screen, and now the page—with an electric, singular voice, at once familiar and surprising, sharp and sweet, funny and serious (well, not that serious).

Ninja Turtles Stackable Mystery Figures

Thanks to Funko, I've become addicted to blind boxes. For me, it's the thrill of pulling that rare figure that's the allure. It's a bit frustrating when you end up with several of the same character. But knowing people that I can trade with makes it a bit easier on the wallet.

I came across the recently released Ninja Turtles Stackable Mystery Figures at Toys R Us. They're not Funko, but they piqued my curiosity, and the $4.99 price tag wasn't too bad, so I picked a couple up. The chances of getting a figure varies between 1/6 and 1/12.

I pulled a Bebop and Michaelangelo; not bad for my first two figures. These are a bit bigger and heavier than Mystery Minis and just as cool. I like the fact that they're stackable, it adds another layer of fun to them. The sculpts are really good and the price is right, so I'll definitely be picking up more of them. I totally need a Turtle totem pole.

Unboxing October's Loot Crate: Horror

Okay, I'm gonna say upfront that horror is not my jam. I've never really been a fan of the genre as the violence and gore of it don't appeal to me. So, right off the bat, this box had a strike against it. Loot Crate is the only subscription box that I get on a consistent basis, and I figured that there'd be something I liked in the box. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything that I liked this month. On the plus side, I have friends that will love them, so it's still a win.

First up in the box was a Leatherface Phunny Plush. Looters had a 50/50 chance of getting a "happy" or "sad" version; I got the "happy" version. Next up was the monthly pin, which featured a Halloween/Michael Myers design. The unlockable that came with this month's pin is a downloadable copy of the game "Superfight"- a video game of absurd arguments via Steam.

Earlier in the year Looters got a copy of League of Regrettable Superheroes. This month sees a copy of Legion of Regrettable Supervillains as a companion to that previous book. It features some of the silliest villains ever created.

Next in the box was a Camp Crystal Lake pennant from Friday the 13th. I was "meh" on this item as I don't collect pennants and am not a Jason fan. The next item, which I admit is a pretty neat idea, though I don't ever really use them, was a set of Freddy Kreuger chopsticks. They're metal chopsticks, which are supposed to be the blades of Freddy's claws, attached to Freddy's glove.

The tee this month was Walking Dead themed and featured Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan. Timed to coincide with the release of this month's return of AMC's The Walking Dead, we got a Negan's Sluggers shirt. The shirt kind of felt more like a walking billboard/free ad promotional tool than anything else. Finally, the box came with a punch out Walking Dead zombie mask.

Inside this month's box:

-Exclusive Leatherface Phunny Plush (KidRobot)
-Exclusive Negan Sluggers T-Shirt (Loot Crate, Inc)
-Exclusive Freddy Kreuger Chopsticks (Icup)
-Exclusive Camp Crystal Lake Pennant (The Coop)
-Exclusive Legion of Regrettable Villains Book (Quirk)
-Exclusive Halloween Pin (Loot Crate Labs)
-Superfight Game (Steam)
