Your First Look at About Betty's Boob

Arriving in stores this June, ABOUT BETTY’S BOOB is an affecting and inspired examination of one woman’s painful, surreal, and oddly humorous journey following a mastectomy. Master storytellers Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau present the original graphic novel story of Betty, who wakes up alone in a hospital room and finds herself disoriented by the body that greets her. She must face the cruel outside world obsessed with beauty standards, starting with her boyfriend, who’s having a very hard time dealing with her new look. No one seems to know what to make of this new Betty and neither does she.

“Though the story is told through a largely silent sequential narrative, ABOUT BETTY’S BOOB is an affecting look at breast cancer survival and how one woman must struggle, fight, and overcome the obstacles that greet her in her new body and new frame of mind,” said Sierra Hahn, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau have created a seminal work that simultaneously inspires and entertains as Betty embarks on a remarkable journey of self-discovery.”

Archaia is home to sophisticated, high-end graphic novels such as Mouse Guard by David Petersen, The Realist by Asaf Hanuka and Rust by Royden Lepp, along with series inspired by world-renowned, beloved properties like Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Coronation. The Award-winning imprint has spawned a number of critically-acclaimed recent hits including Jane by Aline Brosh McKenna and Ramón K. Pérez in September 2017; Bolivar by Sean Rubin in November 2017; and the upcoming A Girl in The Himalayas by David Jesus Vignolli, available in stores this month.

Print copies of ABOUT BETTY’S BOOB will be available for sale in June 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), bookstores or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Blu-ray Giveaway: Alex & Me Starring Soccer Superstar Alex Morgan

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

Teenager Reagan Willis (Agudong) has one dream, to play soccer like her hero, Alex Morgan. Her bedroom is a shrine to all things Alex, including a life-size poster of the Olympic gold medalist. Yet in the Willis house, Reagan lives in the shadow of her prep football superstar brother, Logan. When Reagan fails to make the cut of the premiere local soccer club team and is humiliated by her rival Claire, she's certain her ship has sailed. But after accidentally hitting her head, Reagan's poster of Alex Morgan suddenly comes to life and everything changes!

An Olympic Gold Medalist and FIFA Women's World Cup champion with a penchant for goal scoring, Alex Morgan is one of the top soccer players on the planet, currently playing forward for the United States Women's National Team and the Orlando Pride of the National Women's Soccer League. Away from the field, Morgan is also an accomplished author of "The Kick" series, a collection of chapter books filled with wonderful messages of empowerment for young girls. The first The Kicks book, "Saving the Team," debuted at No. 7 on the New York Times Best Seller list.

Eric Champnella (Thunderstruck, Mr. 3000, Eddie) wrote the Alex & Me screenplay and is also making his full-length feature debut as the film's director. Alex Morgan serves as co-producer. Producers are Mike Karz (Blended) and William Bindley (Mother's Day). Todd Williams (The Illusionist) is the executive producer.

Jerry Trainor (iCarly) also stars as Nigel, a less-than-reliable youth soccer coach, alongside Matt Cornett (Bella and the Bulldogs) as Reagan's brother, Logan; Colin Critchley (Legends of the Hidden Temple) as Reagan's soccer-playing pal, Ben; Chuiti Tiu (Nashville) as Reagan's mother, Ann Wills; and Jim Klock (True Detective, Scream Queens) as Reagan's father (and biggest fan), Joe Wills. Jessica Treska (HBO's upcoming Sharp Objects) plays Reagan's arch-rival, Claire.

Alex & Me will be available on Blu-ray (SRP $24.98), DVD (SRP $19.98) and Digital (SRP $14.99).

Review: Alex and Me

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.

Alex and Me, out now from Warner Home Video, is a fun family film starring Siena Agudong and soccer star Alex Morgan. Agudong (Star Falls) stars as Reagan, who wants to one day be as good as her hero, soccer star Alex Morgan. Through an accidental fall, Reagan hits her head, and when she comes to she finds that she can see and hear her hero who has literally walked out of her poster and into her bedroom. From there, Alex motivates Reagan to work hard in order to become the player that she wants to be.

Even though Reagan has Alex as a teacher and motivator, she also longs for the support of her parents. They are, unfortunately, invested wholly in her brother, who is a football superstar being looked at by college recruiters. Eventually, her parents realize that they’ve been neglecting Reagan and they start to give her the support she needs. It was great to see that the main character and her family were a diverse cast. We don’t often get this in films, let alone in a film about girls in sports.

There’s something for everyone in this film. One strong message for parents is that taking an active interest your kids’ passions will help build more confidence and stronger bonds. Ultimately, Alex and Me can be a bit predictable, but that is by no means a detriment to the film. In fact, the positive ending is something I found refreshing.

Having friends who have daughters that are involved in dance, BMX, and other sports, I found this to be a great flick for an under served audience. In fact, I will be letting some of them watch my copy and recommending it to those I can. Alex and Me is out now on Blu-ray/DVD and digital.
