BOLDLY GO WHERE NO GEM HAS GONE BEFORE IN STEVEN UNIVERSE™ #25

BOOM! Studios today announced that STEVEN UNIVERSE™ #25, on-sale in February 2019, will kick off an epic new comic book exclusive storyline featuring fan favorite space hero, Lars of the Stars! Writer Terry Blas (Hotel Dare) and artist Gabriele Bagnoli reveal Lars and the Off Colors’ hidden truths, as Steven and Connie join them in space for a mind-bending adventure no fan can miss.

Bingo bongo, spacefarers! From slinging donuts in Beach City to swashbuckling his way across the galaxy in a stolen spaceship, Lars has come a long way. And now with the Off Colors as his dependable and devoted crew, he’ll travel even further into the cosmos. But how deep is this newfound confidence? And what happens when the entire crew’s lives depend on him? Blas and Bagnoli blast us into hyperspace for an out-of-this-world journey into a mysterious nebula that forces our daring cast of gems, humans, and fusions to confront their deepest, darkest fears.

"Steven Universe and its characters have had a great impact on so many, so the opportunity to add to this amazing world was too good to pass up. To be able to breathe life into a story about Lars and the Off Colors, a group of misfits trying to find their confidence and where they belong in the cosmos, is exactly the type of story I enjoy writing." said writer Terry Blas.

"When I received the proposal to draw this adventure I was enthusiastic! Steven Universe is a series full of crazy things and incredible characters that I love. I really enjoyed drawing it, and I hope the readers will have as much fun as I did while working on this comic book." said artist Gabriele Bagnoli.

“There’s so much left to discover about this new space pirate version of Lars and the rest of the crew. We’re excited to give fans a story that shows new facets and sheds new light on these uniquely fascinating characters.” said Matthew Levine, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Sometimes it takes a death-defying adventure into the darkest recesses of the universe to confront what’s hidden inside.”

Your First Look at Lev Grossman’s THE MAGICIANS: ALICE’S STORY

BOOM! Studios revealed a first look at THE MAGICIANS: ALICE’S STORY, an all-new original graphic novel hardcover set in the world of the acclaimed book trilogy by Lev Grossman, from writer Lilah Sturges (Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass, Jack of Fables), rising star artist Pius Bak and featuring a cover by Steve Morris (Buffy The Vampire Slayer).

THE MAGICIANS is an award-winning, New York Times bestselling adult fantasy novel series created by Lev Grossman, which has become a worldwide pop culture phenomenon and inspired a hit television series on Syfy, whose fourth season will premiere later this year. Originally published in 2009, The Magicians introduced readers to Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, which boasts a prestigious and dangerously difficult curriculum, famous and infamous alumni, and a record of only… a few deaths per graduating class.

Debuting in July 2019, THE MAGICIANS: ALICE’S STORY expands the mythology of The Magicians, the first novel in the series trilogy, through the perspective of the character Alice Quinn before she joins Brakebills and embarks on an epic journey into the magical land of Fillory.

Alice is a brilliant and naturally talented magician who grew up fully aware of the hidden world of magic but whose well-versed parents refused to teach her how to make use of it. So what is an insanely gifted young genius with no guidance or encouragement to do except teach herself? Which is how she winds up a top student at Brakebills College. Alice is at first meek and cripplingly shy until she breaks out of her shell to face deadly magical creatures, devastating heartbreak, and the hard lessons of a magical world where even well-intentioned actions can have brutal and deadly consequences.

“Lilah and Pius peer into the events of The Magicians through the eyes of one of it’s most intriguing and ultimately heroic characters, which opens up new secrets and hidden facets to the already hidden world of magic placed right beside our own.” said Sierra Hahn, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “The Alice Quinn we meet at Brakebills is a young woman forged by loss and isolation but there’s no mistaking the strength of will and power at the core of this fan favorite character who eventually goes on to become the most surprising protagonist in the whole series.”

Eisner Award-nominated writer Lilah Sturges will be in attendance as a guest of BOOM! Studios at ALA Midwinter 2019 in Seattle, Washington. She will be available for signings both Saturday and Sunday, 1/26-1/28, as well as a guest on the BOOM! Studios: Discover Yours panel on Monday, 1/28, where she will join some of the most acclaimed voices in graphic fiction today for a discussion on the diverse, award-winning imprints of BOOM! Studios, Archaia, BOOM! Box and KaBOOM!.

THE MAGICIANS: ALICE’S STORY is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ ambitious Archaia imprint, home to graphic novels such as Mouse Guard by David Petersen; New World by David Jesus Vignolli; Jane by Aline Brosh McKenna and Ramón Pérez; About Betty’s Boob by Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau; and licensed series like Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Coronation.

Print copies of THE MAGICIANS: ALICE’S STORY will be available for sale on July 10, 2019 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), July 16th at bookstores, and at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

BOOM! Studios Brings Joss Whedon’s BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER & FIREFLY to Free Comic Book Day

BOOM! Studios announced WELCOME TO THE WHEDONVERSE FCBD SPECIAL, an all-new comic book arriving in comic shops worldwide on Free Comic Book Day (May 4th, 2019), with all new stories featuring two of the greatest creations from visionary Joss Whedon (writer/director Marvel’s The Avengers).

This FREE comic, released in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products, is the perfect jumping-on point for the “Whedonverse” with all new stories from the worlds of BOOM! Studios’ hit series Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly.

First, Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his first mate Zoe Alleyne Washburne have a bond that was forged in blood during the war that shaped the ‘Verse…but when the awful secret at the core of that bond is finally revealed and they’re called to answer, the people who love them are left to pick up the pieces in an all-new story written by Greg Pak.

Created by Whedon and set 500 years in the future in the wake of a universal civil war, Firefly centers on the crew of Serenity, a small transport spaceship that doesn't have a planet to call home. Mal Reynolds, a defeated soldier who opposed the unification of the planets by the totalitarian governed Alliance, will undertake any job — legal or not — to stay afloat and keep his crew fed. Thrust together by necessity but staying together out of loyalty, these disparate men and women are seeking adventure and the good life, but face constant challenges on the new frontier, such as avoiding capture by the Alliance, and evading the dangers you find on the fringes of the universe.

And in the second exclusive story, there’s something evil lurking under Sunnydale High School, namely a gateway to a hell dimension that’s been foretold to destroy the world as we know it. Buffy and the gang have mostly got it under control…as long as everything stays exactly as it is, and we mean zero new plot points, no new characters, and absolutely no twists, turns, or misunderstood prophecies. Easy peasy! Writer Jordie Bellaire and artist David López continue the bold reimagining of the groundbreaking mythology that changed pop culture forever.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered on the WB Network on March 10th, 1997. The Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series, which ran for seven seasons from 1997-2003, stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as “Buffy Summers.” Chosen to battle vampires, demons and other forces of darkness, Buffy is aided by a Watcher who guides and teaches her as she surrounds herself with a circle of friends called the “Scooby Gang.”

WELCOME TO THE WHEDONVERSE FCBD SPECIAL, featuring a cover by Greg Smallwood (Moon Knight), is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to a world-class group of licensed comic book series and ambitious original series, including Lev Grossman’s The Magicians, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Planet of the Apes, Abbott, Mech Cadet Yu, Grass Kings, and Klaus.

“We’re committed to making 2019 the biggest year ever for fans of Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic books – and that means giving them the most anticipated release of Free Comic Book Day,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “We’re laying the seeds for some huge stories in each of these series, along with a massive surprise that no Joss Whedon fan can miss!”

Print copies of WELCOME TO THE WHEDONVERSE FCBD SPECIAL will be available for FREE on May 4th, 2019 exclusively at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one).
