Blumhouse and Universal Pictures MA Party Pack Giveaway!

Everybody's welcome at Ma's. But good luck getting home safe.  Oscar® winner Octavia Spencer stars as Sue Ann, a loner who keeps to herself in her quiet Ohio town. One day, she is asked by Maggie, a new teenager in town (Diana Silvers, Glass), to buy some booze for her and her friends, and Sue Ann sees the chance to make some unsuspecting, if younger, friends of her own.  She offers the kids the chance to avoid drinking and driving by hanging out in the basement of her home. But there are some house rules: One of the kids has to stay sober. Don't curse. Never go upstairs. And call her "Ma."

But as Ma's hospitality starts to curdle into obsession, what began as a teenage dream turns into a terrorizing nightmare, and Ma's place goes from the best place in town to the worst place on earth.  Ma also stars Juliette Lewis (August: Osage County) as Maggie's mom, Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast) as a local dad, Missi Pyle (Gone Girl) as his girlfriend, and McKaley Miller (TV's Hart of Dixie), Corey Fogelmanis (TV's Girl Meets World), Gianni Paolo (TV's Power) and Dante Brown (Lethal Weapon TV series) as Maggie's friends.  From Tate Taylor, the acclaimed director of The Help and Get On Up, and blockbuster producer Jason Blum (Get Out, Halloween, The Purge series) comes a thriller anchored by a daring and unexpected performance from Spencer, one of the most powerful actors of her generation.  Ma is written by Scotty Landes (Comedy Central's Workaholics), is produced by Blum for his Blumhouse Productions, by Taylor, and by John Norris (executive producer, Get On Up), and is executive produced by Spencer, Couper Samuelson, Jeanette Volturno, and Robin Fisichella.

Joss Whedon's ANGEL #1 Revealed by BOOM! Studios

BOOM! Studios in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products revealed cover art and story details for ANGEL #1, written by Bryan Hill (Detective Comics, Killmonger) with art from Gleb Melnikov  (Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers), along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers), available in stores May 29, 2019.

Meet Angel – a vampire cursed with a soul who has spent centuries protecting humanity from the monsters that lurk in the dark in an attempt to redeem himself for the crimes committed by the monster he was when he was first turned. But now, when the trail of the most recent demonic uprising takes him to Sunnydale, he realizes that the restoration of his humanity can only come if he takes one more life: a certain Slayer from Sunnydale who he’s never met…but may now be his greatest enemy. The brooding, dark vampire with a soul has just left the city of lights after marking another death on the never-ending list of debts he owes against his soul. Is he ready for one last sacrifice if it brings his long sought after peace?

ANGEL #1 features a main cover by artist Dan Panosian (Slots, Batman: Arkham Knight) and a monster-themed variant cover by illustrator Scott Buoncristiano (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) depicting the terrifying Der Kindestod, from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season two episode “Killed By Death.”

Created by visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers film franchise), Angel premiered on the WB Network on October 5th, 1999 and was a spin-off from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The series ran for five seasons from 1999-2004, starring David Boreanaz as “Angel,” the tortured vampire destined to walk the earth with a soul who moved to LA to set up shop as a supernatural private investigator. Despite Angel’s best efforts to deal with the sins of his past all by himself, Angel Investigations soon became home to other lost souls searching for redemption and willing to fight by his side.

“We got our first taste of Angel in yesterday’s game-changing BUFFY #4 and surprise release of ANGEL #0, but that’s only the start of the newly reimagined vampire’s story in this modern Buffyverse.” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “The questions weighing on Angel -- the possibility of redemption, whether or not we own our own mistakes, and how we weigh the value of the lives around us versus our own -- remain extremely relevant today.  Bryan and Gleb are tackling that head on, set against the centuries long backdrop of the horrors Angel has seen and committed, revealing aspects of Angel’s history that are sure to shock longtime fans.”

ANGEL is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; Abbott from Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivelä; Bury The Lede from Gaby Dunn and Claire Roe; Grass Kings from Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins; and Klaus from Grant Morrison and Dan Mora. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’s Firefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid; Buffy The Vampire Slayer from Jordie Bellaire and David Lopez; and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott and Danielle Di Nicuolo.

Print copies of ANGEL #1 will be available for sale on May 29, 2019 exclusively at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one). Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app. Print copies of the surprise drop ANGEL #0 are available now exclusively in comic book shops everywhere.

Unboxing March’s Marvel Collector Corps: Captain Marvel

Marvel Collector Corps recently released their Captain Marvel themed box. I finally got around to opening mine and was surprised at what I found inside. The last few boxes were...unspectacular. This is a sentiment that I’ve found is shared with other MCC fans in social media.

It felt like they weren’t putting as much creativity into them as they once did, leaving fans with a hit or miss affair. But, THIS box takes us back to the glory days of the MCC. We get two exclusive POP!’s, a t-shirt, and a drinking glass. Still no patch and pin, but hopefully they’ll get back to that in the future.

The glass, featuring Captain Marvel herself, is pretty good quality. It’s got some weight to it and has a picture of Carol and the tag line “Higher, Further, Faster” printed on it. Next up was the t-shirt, which I gotta say, I LOVE. It’s a POP! version of the Captain Marvel poster and one of the best tees they’ve released.

This time, thankfully, we didn’t get another Movie Moment. Funko has been releasing a lot of those in their boxes lately. Instead we get two awesome POP! figures. The first is a glow-in-the-dark unmasked Captain Marvel. She’s mid-flight and ready to kick some ass. The second figure is Nick Fury holding his furry friend, Goose the cat. These figures alone were worth the price of the box. The next MCC themed box is Avengers: Endgame. Keep an eye out for that unboxing!

Inside this MCC box:

-Higher, Further, Faster Captain Marvel Glass
-Funko POP! Captain Marvel T-shirt
- Exclusive Glow-in-the-Dark Captain Marvel POP! Figure
-Exclusive Nick Fury w/Goose the cat POP! Figure

Stan Lee Bootleg Funko POP!

eBay currently has dozens of listings for a bootleg Stan Lee figure wielding the Infinity Gauntlet. The figure looks to use the Stan Lee Guardians of the Galaxy body and the Infinity War Thanos Infinity Gauntlet. The original idea, as far as I can find, comes from custom POP! artist Bottle Cap Customs.

Out of curiosity, I ordered one for the low price of $14.99, hoping that it would at least look half way decent. It arrived from China in roughly 3 weeks from the date I ordered it. The box it was shipped in fit the POP! box perfectly, which was kind of a bummer because any damage the outer box suffered, the inner box suffered as well. Fortunately, the figure didn’t suffer any damage.

The custom box features pictures of the custom Stan Lee and has an Avengers: Endgame logo. The figure itself looks great. It’s exactly the same size as an original Funko POP! figure. It’s also, just like an official Marvel POP!; a bobble head. This thing will look great standing next to the rest of your Marvel Funko collection! Check out the pictures below for a better look.
