That Time Cookie Monster and Grover Visited Entertainment Weekly

via YouTube

Jealous of their friend Elmo landing a new singing-and-dancing segment on Sesame Street, Grover and Cookie Monster (a.k.a. the Blue Brothers) stopped by the Entertainment Weekly office to sing a few musical numbers of their own, parodying the likes of The Avengers, The Hunger Games, Doctor Who, and even The Newsroom. If you are one of the many viewers who thinks Aaron Sorkin's biggest mistake was not saddling his newsman protagonist with a crippling cookie addiction, then this video is for you!

Three gangs. Five girls. No way out. This February, award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce the debut of Curb Stomp, a no-holds-barred, visceral look at the lengths one woman will go to protect her home—perfect for fans of Rat Queens and the seminal ‘70s cult-favorite film, The Warriors. Rising star Ryan Ferrier (D4VE) teams up with newcomer artist Devaki Neogi to create the unflinching story of Machete Betty and the girls of The Fever, a gang fiercely committed to protecting their home of Old Beach.

“Turf wars, fierce ladies, teeth-rattling action—Ryan and Devaki are going to be keeping readers on the edge of their seats with this series,” said BOOM! Movie Review- Cut!

Starring- David Rountree, David Banks, Chris Moir, Sam Scarber, Dahlia Salem, Billy McNamara, Gabrielle Stone, Suze Lanier-Bramlett, Allen Maldonado, Rosie Garcia

The Independent Horror/Thriller genre is full of films that, let’s be honest, are subpar at best. There are the good, the so-so, and the just plain unwatchable. This is where Psycho Rock Productions' Cut! rises above the rest. The film recently won Best Director, Best Film, Best Actor, and Award of Merit for Audio at the 2014 Independent Film & Television Festival. The script, written by David Rountree and David Banks, is full of genuine twists that truly surprised me in a way that reminded me of the first time I watched The Usual Suspects. Every scene builds upon the other and when you get to the final frame it feels entirely earned. Honestly, the only place where the script could have used a bit of polish is the dialogue.

In Cut!, Rountree (who also directed) plays an aspiring filmmaker and David Banks plays an ex-con who set out to make a film that quickly goes awry. When they hire a homeless man (Scarber) to scare a prostitute for their film and the man murders her, the duo decide that the only way to make an authentic horror film is to keep killing. Rountree delivers a tight, taught film from beginning to end. It keeps you engrossed as you watch the filmmakers slip further and further into depravity. And when you get to the whopper of an ending, you’ll want to go back and watch the film again to pick up on the subtle clues peppered throughout the film. The film features appearances from some recognizable actors- Suze Lanier-Bramlett (The Hills Have Eyes), Gabrielle Stone, and William McNamara, which takes the acting well above average for the genre.

Cut! will play for one week at The Arena Cinema in Hollywood on February 13th-19th before making its way to DVD.

The Wyld Stallyns Are Back in 'Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return'

Main Cover by Felipe Smith

10 Years Incentive Cover by Trevor Hairsine
(full wraparound shown)

Variant Cover by Goñi Montes

10K Variant Cover by Rob Guillory

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is most honored to announce the excellent return of the most outstanding time-travelers of the '80s and '90s in Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Return. Taking part in Bill & Ted’s non-heinous return to comics is accomplished wordsmith Brian Lynch (TMNT: Microseries, Angel: After the Fall, screenwriter of the Despicable Me spin-off feature film, Minions) and stellar illuminator of fine comics Jerry Gaylord (Fanboys Vs. Zombies). There will also be totally resplendent back-up stories in each issue, including a short by the excellent Ryan North (Adventure Time, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl) and non-bogus artist dude Ian McGinty (Bravest Warriors, Munchkin) in issue #1.

“San Dimas, California’s favorite sons, Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted 'Theodore' Logan, are making a most triumphant return to comics—and the telephone booth—this March,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Brian’s scripts are hilarious and Jerry’s art channels all the magic of Bill and Ted’s first excellent adventure. We couldn’t be happier! This series is going to rock as hard as the Wyld Stallyns.”

Following the time-traveling historic epic of Excellent Adventure and the turbulent life and death of Bogus Journey, Bill and Ted must now fulfill their destiny as the inspiration for galactic harmony! How can someone hate the Wyld Stallyns as much as the evil Chuck De Nomolos? With the power of time travel, Bill and Ted set their sights on turning a young 27th-century Nomolos’ non-non-heinous attitude into something most outstanding and metal! Plus, each story will have a back-up adventure!

Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Return #1 arrives in comic shops on March 11th with a main cover by Felipe Smith (Ghost Rider) for the price of $3.99. Also available in a limited quantity are a 10 Years Anniversary incentive cover by Trevor Hairsine (Captain America, Eternal Warrior), a retailer incentive cover by Goñi Montes (RoboCop), and a just added 10K Variant cover by Rob Guillory (Chew).

Walker Stalker Con San Francisco 2015

Walker Stalker Con hit the Bay Area last weekend at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. The convention “is the fruit of The Walker Stalkers Podcast with James & Eric. The podcast began with an amazing trip to Senoia, GA where James & Eric were able to view the set of The Walking Dead and meet the incredible actors from the show. As a result of this experience, a podcast began and then the idea of a convention focused around recreating that same experience with the cast and crew of the show, along with talented actors and artists from other zombie shows, movies and art.” Walker Stalker Con also has conventions in Dallas, Boston, Atlanta, New York/New Jersey, Chicago, and Orlando.

Among the many Walking Dead cast members that were in attendance this year were David Morrissey (The Governor), John Bernthal (Shane), Steven Yeun (Glenn), Scott Wilson (Hershel), and Michael Rooker (Merle). Also in attendance was Emily Kinney (Beth) who performed a concert on Saturday night. Even though the convention is aimed at Walking Dead fans, it wasn’t only that show’s cast members that were there. Also in attendance were Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street), Ian McNeice (Doctor Who), Mackenzie Lintz (Under the Dome), and Ming Chen (Comic Book Men).

This year’s convention also featured a special “Night of the Doctor” panel that brought Doctor Who’s Matt Smith (11th Doctor), Karen Gillan (Amy Pond), and Arthur Darvill (Rory) back together to answer fan questions. It was an hour long panel that saw the actor’s reminiscing about filming the show, singing Bohemian Rhapsody, and doing their best zombie impressions. NECA Avengers "Captain America" 1/4 Scale Action Figure

NECA is known for putting out some of the best looking collectibles on the market. Their 1/4 scale figures come with some of the best sculpts in the business and are a great alternative to the more expensive Hot Toys line. NECA's Captain America- Unmasked Battle damaged 1/4 scale action figure is an amazing piece and would be an awesome addition to any collection.

Based on Captain America's appearance in the first Avengers film, the figure stands at an impressive 18" and has 25 points of articulation. It comes in an impressively designed box that features Cap's shield and "A" on the front and the back features a character description and creator credits. The sculpt on this figure is amazingly detailed; its likeness of Chris Evans is comparable to that of anything that Hot Toys has done. Even the costume is impressively detailed, right down to his boots. The figure comes with interchangeable hands and Cap's iconic shield.

For all the things that NECA got right with this thing, it's not without its flaws. The weight of this thing makes it, at times, hard to stand up as it is top heavy. Trying to put Cap in certain poses can cause him to fall over. Another issue is paint flaking on the interchangeable hands. Though it's not that big of a deal as it's not visible once the hands are in their socket, it is an issue that some may not be happy about. Beyond that, there isn't anything that I've found to complain about. At a retail price of $99.99, this figure is a steal and can be found on Amazon.

BOOM! Studios Push #ComicsForward Initiative by Ross Richie

Push #ComicsForward

It’s Keith Giffen’s fault. I keep telling people that he talked me into it in a dive bar on L.A.’s west side. But the truth is that I started this company out of the spare bedroom in my apartment because I couldn’t believe the guy that created Rocket Raccoon thought I could do it. Maybe we could bring something to comics that hadn’t been there before?

I’ve loved comics since 1976. I never thought I’d publish them. Sure, I'd worked with giants of the field, including Barry Windsor-Smith, Howard Chaykin, Jim Starlin, Walter Simonson, and others too numerous to mention, when I was a young marketing turk at Malibu Comics 20 years ago. But me, publish comic books? You’re crazy.

So it’s 10 years later now. Comics publishers don’t often make it that far, do they? We should do a victory lap right now.

But who wants to look backward when there’s so much more cool stuff around the bend?

Let’s talk about the future.

Have you ever had a friend that shared a lot of your interests, but they didn’t read comics? You gave them Watchmen, you gave them Y: The Last Man, you gave them X-Men. But nothing stuck. They liked the idea of comics, but there wasn’t a comic book that felt like it was made for them…

Let’s go make that comic book for them. Together. As fans, as creators, as retailers, as the press, as publishers. All of us. Let’s talk about how we can all Push #ComicsForward. Because comic books should be for everyone.

We know where we’ve been—our favorite eras, our favorite characters, our favorite runs. We already know all of that. I’ve got a garage full of Silver, Bronze, Copper, and Modern Age comics and I love them.

But the medium of comics has never been more on the forefront of driving pop culture and as fans of this art form, we have a rare opportunity to take that interest to the next level and embrace an entire generation of potential fans who don’t read comics right now.

We can make a new Golden Age.

At BOOM!, we’ve carefully selected new projects in 2015 that we believe will help Push #ComicsForward. These projects will take on risky subject matter, introduce new characters from diverse backgrounds, and debut a swath of new creative voices to the industry.

Just in the first few months of 2015, we’ve launched a gaming-inspired humor comic in Munchkin, two projects that tackle the complex climate in the Middle East with Burning Fields and The Realist, five series with unique female leads (Curb Stomp, HaloGen, Cluster, Help Us! Great Warrior, and Giant Days), a period crime project (Hit: 1957), and an original graphic novel about the cutest crabs to ever start a revolution (The March of the Crabs). And we’ve only just begun. But this movement isn’t just about BOOM!, it’s about all of us. We’ll be devoting a ton of our time and energy in 2015 to work with the press, conventions, and social media channels to keep the conversation going.

If you know me, you know I’m the “Challenge Accepted!” guy. If there’s a problem that hasn’t been solved or a project that seems insurmountable, I’m the first one to jump in. This is a big challenge, but I want you to join me in taking it on.

No one thought comics targeted at All Ages was viable until KaBOOM!. Now it's the norm. No one thought an all-female cast of characters with an all-female creative team had a shot in the Direct Market—until Lumberjanes. And who would have guessed that an oversized limited series like Memetic, starring a hearing-impaired, gay college student and a blind, African-American general about a meme-induced apocalypse, would garner rave reviews? We did.

If you believe comics are great just the way they are, this isn’t for you. If you think superheroes are the only kinds of stories worth telling in comics, this isn’t for you. But if you want to see everyone reading comics—your aunt, your co-workers, your niece, your boyfriend, that kid down the street—let’s Push #ComicsForward in 2015.

Together.

Psycho Thriller CUT! Opens Timely on Friday the 13th

Screening Dates: February 13 - February 19, 2015

Psycho Rock Productions and Dog House Post are proud to announce the Friday the 13th opening and week-long engagement of CUT! at the Arena Cinema Hollywood.

CUT!, a twisted, psychological thriller, which won BEST FILM, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST LEADING ACTOR, and the AWARD of MERIT for AUDIO at the 2014 Independent Film and Television Festival was named by Movie Rankings as one of the TOP 5 HORROR MOVIES of 2014. The film stars David Banks, Dahlia Salem, Sam Scarber, Allen Maldonado and Suze Lanier-Bramlett. It was directed by David Rountree.

In CUT!, the apparent is never the truth as an ex-con and aspirant filmmaker set out to manufacture a film by scaring people for real; however, when it goes too far and someone actually dies, the pair decide that killing for real on film is the only way to make a truly terrifying movie.

Suze Lanier-Bramlett co-stars in this movie, as a follow-up to her smash-hit, original cult classics The Hills Have Eyes 1 and 2. This is also a breakthrough performance for comedic actor David Banks, who won Best Leading Actor for his role as the eccentric serial killer Lane Hayes.
