George Pérez Brings First Original Series To BOOM! Studios With 'George Pérez's Sirens'

George Pérez is a name that is recognized worldwide in comics from his work on Teen Titans, The Avengers, and Wonder Woman. He is one of comics’ living legends whose work is synonymous with epic events, huge casts of characters, and dense storytelling. BOOM! Studios is thrilled to be the home for his first original title in over a decade with George Pérez’s Sirens, a six-issue limited series launching in September. This sweeping cosmic adventure spans time and space and follows a team of female heroes that will appeal to fans of Battlestar Galactica’s Starbuck, Star Wars’ Princess Leia, and Alien’s Ripley.

“George Pérez is known for working on some of the most beloved comic book characters and stories in the industry, so when he approached us saying he had an original story with an all-female team, there was only one correct answer,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Quite simply, the man is a legend. He’s been an integral part of the comics industry for over 40 years, and it’s an honor to be working with him on a brand-new series. We can’t wait for everybody to see what George is creating with SIRENS.”

As an intergalactic force enslaves planets across the galaxy, the legendary team known only as the Sirens must reunite to save the galaxy—but is that even possible when the Sirens themselves don’t even remember who they are? And the rest of the universe only remembers them as…villains? A six-issue miniseries featuring your new favorite comic book team, written and drawn by the master himself, George Pérez begins his greatest story yet.

George Pérez’s Sirens #1 arrives in comic shops on September 17th with a cover price of $3.99. The main covers include two full-color connecting wraparound covers by George Pérez and another illustrated by Cameron Stewart (Fight Club 2, Batman and Robin), with two connecting incentive covers of the George Pérez wraparound cover pencils. Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor and Talent Deluxe Edition TPB Out Today

Our favorite comics hitting shelves this week are "Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #2" from Titan Comics and "Talent Deluxe Edition TPB" from BOOM! Studios. If you're looking for something new, we highly recommend giving these a shot!

Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #2

Talent Deluxe Edition Trade Paperback

Today marks the release of the second of our Deluxe reprints of classic BOOM! Studios titles, the Talent Deluxe Edition trade paperback. (You can find a review PDF and preview pages on the press site.) This follows this past June's release of The Savage Brothers Deluxe Edition trade paperback. The Deluxe editions reprint the titles in full comic size (they were originally printed in 6" x 9" digest size) and sport brand-new covers.

Written by Christoper Golden (Sons of Anarchy) and Tom Sniegoski (The Goon), illustrated by a then-unknown Paul Azaceta (Outcast), and featuring a new cover  by Azaceta for this edition, Talent is the story of Nicholas Dane, the miraculous sole survivor of a plane crash. As mysterious men arrive to kill him, Dane discovers he can channel the different talents of the crash victims. Here's the new cover:

Guardians of The Galaxy Galactic Battlers Groot Figure

I think that Hasbro really missed the boat on their Guardians of the Galaxy movie toys. The collection, especially the figures, don't have the best looking sculpts going for them. That being said, I drank the Disney Kool-Aid and have been buying all the Guardians items lately. This version of Groot comes with a "Branch Bash" action and grows taller when you squeeze his legs together. I picked him up mainly because I'm a big fan of the Marvel Universe 3.75 inch figure line and this version of Groot looks pretty good standing next to Starlord.

Teen Dog Makes the Scene in September from BOOM!

TEEN DOG #1 Main Cover by Jake Lawrence

TEEN DOG #1 Retailer Incentive Cover (1 in 15) by Jen Lee

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is excited to announce the September debut of TEEN DOG, the newest title to join the publisher’s imprint, BOOM! Box, where comics are kept weird and made for the love of it! Created, written, and illustrated by emerging web cartoonist Jake Lawrence, TEEN DOG is the cool guy you always wanted to be in high school, à la Michael J. Fox and Ferris Bueller, except he’s a dog in a rad denim vest. Each issue contains short vignettes featuring Teen Dog, his best friend Mariella, Thug Pug, Sara the star quarterback, and many more. Teen angst and whimsical adventures collide in this new series that combines the feel of John Hughes movies with ‘90s Nickelodeon cartoons.

“Teen Dog. TEEN. DOG. Need we say more?” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Our new BOOM! Box imprint is becoming a home for some of our favorite cartoonists and storytellers, many of whom are coming over to print for the first time. Jake, like many of our other BOOM! Box creators, has built up his audience on Tumblr. We’re continuing to carve out a place where quirky, silly, and just outrageously fun and experimental comics can thrive in print.”
Skateboards, football games, prom...your teenage years have got nothin' on the raddest dude that's ever graced a denim vest. Written and illustrated by Jake Lawrence (Time Cowboy), join Teen Dog and his best friend Mariella as they tackle typical teen life with a manic twist. Growing up is an adventure, and you might as well rock it!

TEEN DOG #1 arrives in comic shops on September 10th with a cover price of $3.99. A variant cover by Jen Lee will be available in limited quantities. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one! It’s also available for order directly from boom-studios.com.

When a pair of low-level criminals kidnap the wife of a corrupt real-estate developer, they get both more and less than they bargained for in Life of Crime, a dark caper comedy based on legendary author Elmore Leonard's novel The Switch. Starring Jennifer Aniston, John Hawkes, yasiin bey, Mark Boone Junior, Isla Fisher, Will Forte and Tim Robbins, Life of Crime is packed with the outrageously eccentric characters, black comedy and unexpected twists that earned Leonard a reputation as one of America's sharpest and funniest crime writers.

Experience The Award-Winning 'Jim Henson's Tale of Sand' Like Never Before

Archaia, an award-winning imprint of BOOM! Studios, is excited to announce the September debut of JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND: THE ILLUSTRATED SCREENPLAY and the JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND BOX SET, which contains both the new illustrated screenplay and the original, Eisner and Harvey Award-winning graphic novel, JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND, in a beautiful slipcase edition. Following the critically acclaimed graphic novel adaptation by Eisner Award-winning artist Ramón K. Pérez, the JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND: THE ILLUSTRATED SCREENPLAY contains the final draft of the original, unproduced screenplay by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl, as well as nine all-new, black-and-white pages illustrated by Pérez that were cut, 19 original inked pages, 16 pages of layouts, and never-before-seen drawings, hand-written notes, and artifacts created from The Jim Henson Company's Archives. Jim Henson fans and process junkies alike will be able to see the creative process from draft to final comic page.

“When JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND was first published, it made waves in the comics industry,” said BOOM! Studios President of Publishing and Marketing Filip Sablik. “Jim Henson continues to be one of the most influential, creative men in recent history, and his work has shaped the imaginations of creators worldwide. Being able to reproduce the screenplay for fans is incredibly exciting, and having Ramón return to do new work for this book means we can make a collected edition of the highest quality for fans.”

Between 1967 and 1974, Jim Henson and his longtime writing partner Jerry Juhl developed three drafts of a screenplay for a feature-length film called Tale of Sand. In 2012, Archaia published a graphic novel adaptation as realized by illustrator Ramón K. Pérez which went on to win three Eisner Awards and two Harvey Awards. The Illustrated Screenplay features the complete and final 1974 draft of the project with Jim and Jerry's handwritten edits as well as layouts and inked pages from the adaptation in gorgeous black-and-white, and never-before-seen sequences that were cut during the production of the graphic novel, newly illustrated by Ramón K. Pérez.

JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND BOX SET is the definitive way to experience the groundbreaking JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND graphic novel. Featuring an all-new, wrap-around illustration by Ramón K. Pérez, this beautiful slipcase box includes the Eisner and Harvey Award-winning graphic novel adaptation of the lost Jim Henson screenplay and the new JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND: THE ILLUSTRATED SCREENPLAY hardcover.

Archaia began publishing Jim Henson comic books and original graphic novels in 2010 with the FRAGGLE ROCK comic book series and has consistently published new projects since that time. Archaia’s relationship with The Jim Henson Company resulted in the Eisner Award-winning JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND, based on the lost screenplay by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl and illustrated by Ramón K. Pérez, along with critically acclaimed interpretations of JIM HENSON’S THE STORYTELLER, THE DARK CRYSTAL, and FRAGGLE ROCK.

JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND: THE ILLUSTRATED SCREENPLAY and JIM HENSON’S TALE OF SAND BOX SET go on sale in comic shops and specialty stores on September 3rd, and wherever books are sold on September 9th. The illustrated screenplay will retail for $24.99, and the box set will retail for $49.99 with a new wrap-around cover by Ramón K. Pérez. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Whether it was his patented Flying Elbow Drop, his bedazzled robe or his distinctive voice, “Macho Man” was truly a pop-culture icon.

Savage had several unforgettable rivalries during his illustrious career, but arguably his most famous match came on April 2, 1989 in Atlantic City, New Jersey at WrestleMania® V. The "Mega Powers" exploded that day, as "Macho Man" put his WWE Championship on the line against his former tag team partner, Hulk Hogan®. BOOM! Studios Has a Few Tricks Up Their Sleeves With 'CLOAKS'

CLOAKS #1 Main Cover by W. Scott Forbes

CLOAKS #1 Retailer Incentive Cover (1 in 10) by Phil Noto

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce the September debut of CLOAKS, a new limited series that combines the thrills of a good magic trick with a Black Ops twist. This new magical thriller is created by actor David Henrie, who learned a thing or two about magic in his role as Justin Russo on the Disney Channel Original Series Wizards of Waverly Place. Henrie, alongside writer Caleb Monroe (STEED AND MRS. PEEL, Batman) and artist Mariano Navarro (PROTOCOL: ORPHANS), have created the Robin Hood of Wall Street, tricking the rich out of their money and inadvertently winding up on the radar of a covert Black Ops organization.

“CLOAKS combines two of our favorite story elements: magic and spies,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Both partially involve deceit in order to be successful and that’s just one of the reasons this combo created the beginnings of a great story. David, Caleb, and Mariano introduce us to a likable rogue with a penchant for stealing from the rich to give to the poor—with a decidedly modern spin. Stay sharp to catch the misdirections in CLOAKS, and prepare to have a lot of fun.”

In the Big Apple, a highly skilled street illusionist named Adam blows the minds of crowds with logic-defying acts, while surreptitiously using his artistry to steal from corrupt Wall Street investment bankers and re-distribute their ill-begotten wealth to those in need. He’s a modern-day Robin Hood, but his travails garner the attention of the local authorities. While evading their pursuit, Adam is confronted by three Suits and quickly ascertains that freedom has a cost—in order to maintain his liberty, he must join this clandestine Black Ops organization simply known as CLOAKS.

CLOAKS #1 arrives in comic shops on September 3rd with a cover price of $3.99. The first issue will ship with a main cover by W. Scott Forbes and retailer incentive cover by Phil Noto. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one! It’s also available for order directly from boom-studios.com.
