Firestarter Trailer

In a new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic thriller from the producers of The Invisible Man, a girl with extraordinary pyrokinetic powers fights to protect her family and herself from sinister forces that seek to capture and control her.

For more than a decade, parents Andy (Zac Efron; Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile; The Greatest Showman) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon; Fear the Walking Dead, Succession) have been on the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong; American Horror Story: Double Feature, The Tomorrow War) from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction.

Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family’s location, a mysterious operative (Michael Greyeyes; Wild Indian, Rutherford Falls) is deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans.

The film also stars Kurtwood Smith (Amityville: The Awakening, Hitchcock), John Beasley (The Purge: Anarchy, The Sum of All Fears) and Gloria Reuben (Lincoln, Mr. Robot). The Firestarter score is composed by the legendary John Carpenter (Halloween, Christine, The Fog) and his fellow Halloween franchise composers Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies.

Directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil), from a screenplay by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills) based on the novel by Stephen King, Firestarter is produced by Jason Blum (Halloween, The Invisible Man) for Blumhouse and Oscar® winner Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, Constantine) for Weed Road Pictures. The film’s executive producers are Ryan Turek, Gregory Lessans, Scott Teems, Martha De Laurentiis, J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules.

BOOM! Studios Announces Brand New Series DUNE: THE WATERS OF KANLY

BOOM! Studios today proudly announced DUNE: THE WATERS OF KANLY, a brand new four-issue comic book series expanding the rich mythology of Frank Herbert’s Dune, adapted & scripted by New York Times bestselling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, illustrated by artist Francesco Mortarino (Power Rangers), colored by Raúl Angulo, and lettered by Ed Dukeshire, in partnership with Herbert Properties LLC and in full coordination with Abrams ComicArts, who published the first of a trilogy of graphic novel adaptations of Herbert’s original classic novel DUNE in Fall 2020.

Go deeper into the Dune universe with this lore-expanding story set during the events of the Frank Herbert classic! In the aftermath of the battle of Arrakeen, legendary House Atreides warmaster Gurney Halleck takes refuge with spice smugglers, vowing revenge against the Harkonnens no matter the cost.

“In the novel DUNE, Gurney Halleck works secretly among the smugglers for two years, building his hatred toward the Harkonnens,” said Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. “We loved the opportunity to explore those lost years and tell this story of his plan to avenge what they did to noble House Atreides.”

Brian Herbert is the son of legendary science fiction author Frank Herbert and has written the definitive biography of him, Dreamer of Dune, a finalist for the Hugo Award. Brian has also written many highly imaginative novels, including the Timeweb trilogy, the ecological fantasy Ocean (with his wife, Jan), The Little Green Book of Chairman Rahma, The Unborn, and The Assassination of Billy Jeeling. His earlier acclaimed novels include The Stolen Gospels, Sudanna Sudanna, and Sidney’s Comet, as well as Man of Two Worlds (written with his father). Brian has collaborated on many novels in the Dune series with Kevin J. Anderson, all of which became international bestsellers, and they also wrote the Hellhole trilogy together. They recently completed the novel Dune: The Heir of Caladan for Tor, and are also collaborating on the definitive graphic novel adaption of the novel Dune, as well as an exciting new adaptation of their collaborative novel, Dune: House Atreides, for BOOM! Studios. Brian also co-manages the legacy of Frank Herbert and is an executive producer of the new motion picture “Dune” and the forthcoming TV series “Dune: The Sisterhood.” He and his wife live in Seattle, Washington.

Kevin J. Anderson has published more than 175 books, 58 of which have been national or international bestsellers. He has written numerous novels in the Star Wars, X-Files, and Dune universes, as well as unique steampunk fantasy trilogy beginning with Clockwork Angels, written with legendary rock drummer Neil Peart. His original works include the Saga of Seven Suns series, the Wake the Dragon and Terra Incognita fantasy trilogies, the Saga of Shadows trilogy, and his humorous horror series featuring Dan Shamble, Zombie P.I. He has edited  numerous anthologies, written comics and games, and the lyrics to two rock CDs. Anderson is the director of the graduate program in Publishing at Western Colorado University. Anderson and his wife Rebecca Moesta are the publishers of WordFire Press. His most recent novels are Clockwork Destiny, Gods and Dragons, Dune: The Heir of Caladan (with Brian Herbert), and Slushpile Memories: How NOT to Get Rejected.

Created by visionary writer Frank Herbert, Dune debuted in 1965, has sold millions of copies and is arguably the most admired science fiction novel of all time. After winning the Hugo Award and inaugural Nebula Award, Dune inspired a best-selling novel series and led to multiple live-action adaptations, including the upcoming feature film from Legendary Pictures. The influence of Dune extends well beyond the world of entertainment, with an incalculable influence on modern scientific thinking about politics, religion, outer space, environmentalism, and more.

“Brian and Kevin have done it again with an in-depth look at one of the most intriguing characters in the Dune universe—Gurney Halleck—and the incredible never-before-seen journey he undertook to get justice for the House he devoted his life to,” said Dafna Pleban, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios.

DUNE: THE WATERS OF KANLY #1 features main cover art by famed illustrator Christian Ward (Something is Killing the Children) and variant covers by artists Massimo Carnevale (The Marvels, Y: The Last Man), Junggeun Yoon (Magic), and InHyuk Lee (Amazing Spider-man).

BOOM! Studios Announces First Issue of a Brand New HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER Story

BOOM! Studios announced the launch of the next story within the bestselling horror anthology series, HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER, set in the world of the Eisner Award-nominated SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN. From co-creator James Tynion IV (The Department of Truth, The Nice House on the Lake) and new co-writer Sam Johns (Punchline, The Joker), with art by rising star artist Letizia Cadonici and co-creator Werther Dell’Edera (Razorblades), comes the premiere of the first issue of a new original story about the mysterious SCARLET MASKS in HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER #6, available May 2022.

Edwin Slaughter is a Scarlet Mask, one of the secret record keepers of the Order of St. George. He’s enamored with stories of ancient hunters, as well as those in his midst, but he only gets to write the stories and never live them himself. That is, until what starts out as standard reconnaissance for the Order turns Edwin’s world upside down—a legendary monster is discovered, one long thought extinct! It's taken the lives of countless children, bringing Edwin into the field and into real danger for the very first time.

“When we decided to launch a supporting title to Something is Killing the Children, the goal was to create a series that could cycle through many stories in the mythology surrounding the HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER. The stories Werther and I would never get a chance to tell, but knew must be told!” said said Tynion IV. “Sam and Letizia introduce you to Edwin Slaughter, a member of the Scarlet Masks. There's so much depth behind their blood red masks–I'm so excited for you to learn more about them, and Edwin in particular!

HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER #6 features main cover art by famed illustrators Rafael Albuquerque (BRZRKR) and co-creator Dell’Edera, as well as variant cover art by acclaimed artists Kyle Hotz (Savage Spider-man), Jorge Corona (Middlewest, Wynd), and Andrea Sorrentino (Gideon Falls).

“Exploring the HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER, we got to know Aaron and Jace better. Now it's Edwin's turn and many new characters will join in,” said Dell’Edera. “The world of Something is Killing the Children continues to grow with a new creative team and brand new characters! How exciting!”

HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including BRZRKR by Keanu Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney; Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; We Only Find Them When They’re Dead by Al Ewing and Simone Di Meo; Seven Secrets by Tom Taylor and Daniele Di Nicuolo; The Many Deaths of Laila Starr by Ram V and Filipe Andrade; Eve by Victor LaValle and Jo Mi-Gyeong; Basilisk by Cullen Bunn and Jonas Scharf; Regarding the Matter of Oswald’s Body by Christopher Cantwell and Luca Casalanguida, Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; and the upcoming Alice Ever After by Dan Panosian and Giorgio Spalletta and Grim by Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties, including Dune: House Atreides from Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson, and Dev Pramanik; Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, and Francesco Mortarino; and Magic from Jed McKay and Ig Guara.

“Exploring the HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER means revealing its occupant's hidden modus operandi for dedicated readers of Something is Killing the Children, while at the same time offering a first glimpse down the private halls of the Scarlet Masks,” said Johns. “Letizia Cadonici brings art to this book that is as beautiful as it is unsettling, an essential component to a story that asks how to defeat what–or who–is unafraid of death.”

Something is Killing the Children is the bestselling, Eisner Award-nominated hit series created by acclaimed comics writer James Tynion IV and illustrator Werther Dell’Edera. It has sold over one million copies worldwide, has been nominated for Eisner, Harvey, and Ringo Awards, and garnered widespread critical acclaim. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is developing a Something Is Killing The Children series with Intrepid Pictures’ Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House). Readers and fans can find the first three volumes collecting the first fifteen issues of the ongoing series in bookstores everywhere. Something is Killing the Children Book One Deluxe Edition is available now.

“As a huge fan of Something is Killing the Children, I still can't believe I'm entering the HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER. I love horror, monsters, and anything that scares, so I really couldn't ask for anything better!” said Cadonici.
