Straight Outta Compton Red Band Trailer

via YouTube

This is probably going to age me, but I grew up at a time when Dr. Dre wasn't known for headphones and Ice Cube wasn't known for making family films. What they were known for was being in N.W.A. alongside Eazy-E, DJ Yella, and MC Ren. For those that don't know their history, Universal and Legendary are set to release an upcoming film based on the "Godfathers of Gangsta Rap" with the biopic "Straight Outta Compton." Alongside Avengers: Age of Ultron, Cameron Crowe's Aloha, and Ant-Man, this film is also on the top of my list of must see movies this year.

'Sleepy Hollow: Origins' One-Shot Coming in April

BOOM! Studios' forthcoming stand-alone issue Sleepy Hollow: Origins, is comprised of five short stories. It sheds light on the backstories and history of several characters from the TV series, including Ichabod Crane, Detective Abbie Mills, Jenny Mills, Henry Parrish, and the Hessian. Written by Mike Johnson (Supergirl) and illustrated by Sons of Anarchy artist Matías Bergara, Johnson worked closely with the writers of the show, so the stories here are considered officially part of canon. Fans will get to discover Abbie’s first days on the job, Jenny’s time in an institution, and how Ichabod turned his back on King and Country. They’ll also learn how Henry was born as one of the Horseman of the Apocalypse, and relive the Hessian’s life as Abraham.

The Sleepy Hollow: Origins one-shot goes on sale in comic shops on April 8th with a cover by Joe Quinones (Howard the Duck) for the price of $4.99.

Trekkies Uhura Q-Pop Figure From Quantum Mechanix

Quantum Mechanix has a line of Q-Pop figures that include characters from Star Trek, DC, and The Big Bang Theory. The Trekkies line stand about 4.5" high and are made of "high quality PVC." Figures in the Trekkies line include Kirk, Uhura, Spock, and the SDCC Exclusive "Mirror Mirror" Spock. Each figure comes with a stand, word bubble, and an erasable marker so you can write in your favorite quotes.

Uhura, designed by Mohammad Haque, is a great looking piece. Unfortunately, the peg's on the figure's feet didn't line up with the holes in the base. I had to manipulate them to get them to line up. The issues didn't end there. One of the pegs on Uhura was too big to fit into the base's hole, leaving the peg to sit about half way in. It will hold, but I'm wondering where the quality control was here. I had read some pretty bad reviews on this line and have seen the Batman Q-Pop in stores and the paint apps were pretty bad. I gave the company the benefit of the doubt and ordered it anyway. Overall, it's a disappointing purchase and I'm not sure if I'll be collecting more of these even though they are great looking pieces.

Trekkies Uhura designed by Mohammad Haque.

A great looking figure, fresh out of the box.

Legs didn't line up and peg was too big for the hole.

Heebie Jeebiez Enchant-dead DollieZ on Etsy

Heebie Jeebiez had a stand at this years Walker Stalker Con and their display blew me away. They take old, unwanted dolls and fashion them into "Recycled Nightmares of the Crawling Dead." My favorite piece (pictured below) was the Carrie Fissure doll dressed as Princess Leia, complete with hair buns! Heebie Jeebiez has a shop on Etsy where you can purchase their awesome one-of-a-kind recycled dolls like Miley Virus, Audrey Heartburn, and Thirston Howls. You can also check out their Facebook page for more info.

via Etsy:

Underneath a stack of old toys at a yard sale or on a shelf at a thrift store, lay abandoned baby dolls that are tossed aside, used, abused and no longer wanted or loved. Then a magic man or some say mad man comes along and gives them a new beginning, a re-birth. During their meticulous transformation, under layers of paint, their new personalities are slowly revealed. Teeth start to appear, eyes go black as the night or shine white as the moon. The skin turns pale and rotten and black goo seeps from their nose, mouth and ears. A new hunger rumbles in their bellies for the taste of brains and blood. The re-birth virus has been completed and they are now no longer forsaken bodies of plastic. They are now ankle biting, creepy-cute, crawling dead Heebie JeebieZ Enchant-dead DollieZ!

Archaia Brings Arthur de Pins' 'The March of the Crabs' to the English-Speaking Audience

This March, Archaia, an award-winning imprint of BOOM! Studios, is pleased to announce the debut of The March of the Crabs Vol. 1: The Crabby Condition hardcover from French animator Arthur de Pins. Combining the slick look of Art Deco with tongue-in-cheek humor, de Pins tells the story of a hapless species of crab that is one of nature’s cruel jokes, and what it means when they start breaking out of their set evolution.

“Archaia has always taken pride in bringing beautiful European graphic novels to English-speaking audiences, and The March of the Crabs is a wonderful new addition to that catalogue,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Beautifully drawn and bitingly funny, Arthur de Pins’ striking work is poised to be a delightful new discovery for the industry this year.”

For centuries, the square crab has only been able to move side-to-side in one direction. But some brave crabs decide it’s time for revolution! A few of the brave crustaceans in an estuary on the French coastline decide it’s time to try and actually turn for once, but what could their evolution revolution mean for the human race?

The March of the Crabs Vol. 1: The Crabby Condition hardcover arrives in comic shops from Archaia on March 25th with a cover by creator Arthur de Pins for the price of $19.99.

Times Change, But People Never Do in Bryce Carlson and Vanesa R. Del Rey's 'Hit: 1957'

Hit: 1957 Main Cover by Vanesa R. Del Rey

Hit: 1957 #1 10 Years Incentive Cover by Trevor Hairsine

Hit: 1957 Incentive Cover by Dustin Nguyen

Hit: 1957 FOC Variant Cover by Terry Dodson

This March, award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce the debut of the next chapter in Los Angeles’ violent past in Bryce Carlson and Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer nominee Vanesa R. Del Rey’s (The Empty Man, Sinatoro) Hit: 1957. This new limited series is a follow-up to the Harvey Award-nominated miniseries Hit: 1955 and takes readers later in the violent decade of change for Los Angeles with familiar faces, new threats, and more sharp, smart noir.

“Hit: 1955 took us deep into the gritty past of the City of Angels, and we couldn’t wait for Bryce and Vanesa to continue the story of their clandestine LAPD hit squad,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Vanesa’s artwork is stunning, Bryce’s noir-infused writing is sharp, and the stakes are even higher as we find Harvey Slater and ompany in 1957. We can’t wait for you to join us for another Hit!”

Crime is down in Los Angeles—at least, on the surface. Mickey Cohen has been quiet since his release from prison and the LAPD has seemingly regained control of the city. But the underground is a different story. Det. Harvey Slater and company have spent the last two years focused on Domino and his Syndicate’s unrelenting infiltration, but no matter how many people the hit squad kills, the real fight for Los Angeles rages on. Meanwhile, Slater’s being hounded by Internal Affairs, Bonnie Brae is missing, and everything is falling apart at the seams.

Hit: 1957 #1 arrives in comic shops on March 25th with a main cover by series artist Vanesa R. Del Rey for the price of $3.99. A new cover by Terry Dodson (Star Wars: Princess Leia) has been added. Also available in a limited quantity are a 10 Years Anniversary incentive cover by Trevor Hairsine (Captain America, Eternal Warrior) and a retailer incentive cover by Dustin Nguyen (Descender).
