Plastic Bodies, starring Kaitlyn Jenkins of ABC Family's
"Bunheads" will have its world premiere at the annual Columbia
College Hollywood Festival for the Film Industry at the historic Harmony Gold
Theater in Hollywood, CA on October 30th, 2014 at 7:30PM. Melissa Whitman's
debut film as a writer/director seeks to push the bounds of female-driven
horror.
Plastic Bodies is an exploration into the depths of the
demons lurking in the human mind as told by a cast and crew largely consisting
of female filmmakers. Original music composed by San Diego's DUET will
accompany Whitman's striking visual imagery to express Lucy's collapsing
mental state. It is an over saturated descent into a beautiful, plastic, hell.
"I wanted to create a film that is based on the things I
dread, the things that keep me up at night. I think many women are tormented by
what they see in the mirror." - Melissa
Whitman, Writer/Director
"Personally I felt pulled towards this role because it
gave me a chance to share my struggles with body image and the torment it plays
on our minds as humans. It's such an important topic and I thought this was a
crafty way to address the subject while still giving everyone the option to
have their own thoughts about the matter at hand." -
Kaitlyn Jenkins, Star
Synopsis:
Lucy, is an average sized woman living in a "skinny" world. One night, she is left to work alone in a hip fashion
boutique and the pressures of seeking the perfect body begin to get the best of
her. She takes an experimental weight loss medication guaranteed to give her
the body she wants. Unfortunately, it has unintended side effects causing Lucy
to wonder if she's losing her mind, or if something more sinister is at play.
The Plastic Bodies world premiere is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend.
